I hate you people. People in general, I mean. People sit there and don't comment on awesome songs, and when they do comment, it's all "this song rox!!!!!" not the "song meaning". Halfwits. Fuck yourselves. At any rate... a line is incorrect in this. It should be: "He took his sister from his head, and impregnated her on the sheets". What I take this song to mean is a guy is warning his son about incest. I don't think that the kissing, or impregnating is a hidden meaning. I think it's like, he caught his son and daughter kissing ("sit right down MY wicked/evil son"), and is warning him of the consequences ["about a boy who fell from glory (...) kissed 'til they were dead."]. The father is probably beating the son ("it always turns out this way; here I am 'with my hand'). I can't wait till I can correct and submit lyrics again, since people are fucktards.

Holy crap. Why don't we just calm the hell down? It's not good to get so worked up over something so trivial.

Anybody ever read The Sound and the Fury? I'm almost positive there's a huge shitload of references to that book in this song.

From what it seems like to me,it's about a guy fantasizing over his sister while masturbating. The references to being "evil" and "wicked" may also have to do with the title of the song (Since a majority of holidays are tied to religions in some way or form)

I always figured it was about incest, as kind of a double to "Nimrod's Son" -- one is about an incestuous relationship and one is about the consequences. But I'm pretty sure it's "painted her on the sheets." I tend to think that incest in the head like that is just as bad as incest "for real," so to speak. Also, "painted her on the sheets" reminds me of Fernand Knopff, the late-19th-century Belgian painter. He painted many paintingsof his sister, including one called Memory that features her in six or seven different outfits and poses on a lawn ("Grass and trees" are both present in the painting). In every single one of them, she's buttoned up to the chin and the only skin visible is her face and a little of her neck. So there's my worthless -- but not counterfeit -- two cents.

"Impregnated her on the sheets"? Dude, Charles Thompson would never write something so boring as that. It is a song about incestuous masturbation. "He took his sister from his head and he painted her on the sheets" is basically saying "he imagined his sister and mentally painted her onto the sheets" (much like how someone might imagine some sexy lady when he touches himself). I was thinking "rolled her up in grass and trees" could be simply describing the pattern on the sheets as he caressed them, imagining his sister's naked body. As far as "This ain't no holiday, but it always turns out this way," I am at a loss. I know what "here I am with my hand" means, of course. He is obviously saying that something about holidays might cause loneliness and self-gratification, OR that despite it not being a holiday, it still ends up feeling like a holiday. I really can't figure that out, other than this shot in the dark (no pun meant): Holidays are when family gets together, and he is saying, "even though it's not a holiday, I always end up dreaming of getting with my sister, with my hand in my pants."

"Sister" doesn't have to mean his actual sister. Some people use sister in the some way "brother" is used. So, "sister" could just mean "girl". Although, knowing what Frank Black's like lyrically, he probably is talking about his sister. To me "He took his sister from his head/And then painted her on the sheets/And then rolled her up in grass and trees/And they kissed 'till they were dead" means that he was imagining he was having sex with a girl in a grassy area - maybe a tropical forest? That's what I imagine - until they couldn't continue, and he ejaculated all over his sheets.

I took this to be about the kid masturbating and gettin caught and told how evil he was for doing it
