In short, I think this song is about sex. Narratively, he encounters a girl who walks around like she's hot shit, and when she gets in the bed she's more or less "tame" and sort of stripped from her ego..Almost like she puts on a front. just my opinion.

i think this song is about a girl he knows.. he thinks she's hot, he listens to her babble, but all he really wants to do is fuck, but alas, she is tame (as in a domesticated animal). he, obviously, is not. i love how he screams the word tame, showing that he himself is anything but.

Frank Black on "Tame": "I don’t want to sound like a male chauvinist, but I have a male perspective, because I am male. ‘Tame’ is about women more than men. But the way some men treat their hair it’s incredible and I can[‘t] understand all that deodorant and stuff. I’ve never related to it. My family’s rather spartan. It’s about putting all that time into sexual presentation. I don’t mean it in a dirty kind of way. Where I live in the city, women spend time presenting themselves and still come out forever bland and mediocre." I can see what he's getting at, but I don't care what he says, not wearing deodorant is kinda sick.

Yea I see what you guys mean with the rape thing. Especially in the secpnd verse, how the raper assualts her body and she falls down and can't really move etc... But I always thought that it's also about how some people, in this case girls, think that beauty goes the whole way. When in fact the shallow people are just lame and have nothing real and interesting to say.

francis branching off of "girlie" straight from debaser (and andalusya the movie) (hint: hips like CINDERELLA) base of the song=stereotypical girl on screen, and an adolescent's response(rape). now here's the important part francis criticizes for because of her being "tame" (hint: i don't actually know who the "girlie" in the movie is because i havent seen it), but at the same time he is raping her, whether he wants to or not. a little lesson on anyone's character, using an adolescent's fix on women and sex to describe so much more. on another level, in his metaphor of the girl, he is also probably criticising other tame music and movies, and how we all fall for them in life; society planted that with us, even francis. so he's screaming in criticism at her, and and self-criticism of his state.

the lyrics dont seem to match, but when i hear the song, it sounds like it's about a rape, from the perspective of the attacker. especially with all the evil screaming and the heavy breathing. very primal

Sort of amanda. This song is pretty much about a girl who is a partier and a freak but is more of a lover in the bed and not so much of a slut as everyone else kind of thinks of her

ummm... Possibly about a girl who thinks/tries to be wild but is really just a nice girl at heart. it's hard to say since Frank was constantly smoking copious amounts of pot while writing.
