| That wasnt brian rapping..it was an american rapper name Justin Warfield..i read it from an interview.. "The British press slagged and slagged this album, but we were number two and our U.K. tour sold out quick as hell, so we just waltz around the country with our middle finger up!"--Hewitt | |

| 'Dope, guns, fucking in the streets' is the old White Panther saying. Spite and Malice started off as a song about homophobia, but when brian opened up a newspaper and saw a picture of Winston Churchill's green mohican and he started cackling and jumping around the studio screaming "dope, guns, fucking in the streets" as only he could and it got incorporated into the song =) I love how its all based around a game of cards. I love dragonkatz72's interpretation, very interesting. Mines stranger. I always perceived it as being about the 'players' in a highschool set-up, Jacks being a typical 'jack the lad', a popular egotistical twat, queen was an attention-seeking prom-queen who's drama was self-inflicted, she's selfish and vain but so sad inside and deludes herself with her playground status whereas aces was a clever, creepy and mysterious. He used and manipulated people. It was all about motives and about 'winning the game'. Everyone fought to hold the cards. | |

| the... erm... rapping surprised me at first. certainly different for a band like placebo, but it did add something to the song. whether it'd be better w/out the rap... i dunno. | |

| when i first heard the rapping i was kinda shocked coz it isnt Placebo's usual style. But now i think its a really good contrast. and for everyone who keeps asking, it isn't Brian Molko, its Justin Warfield. it says it on the back cover of the album cover for 'Black Market Music' | |

| dope guns and fucking in the streets was in some newspaper article. Brian read it and started jumping about chanting it. Something about the disintegration of some law or a dismissal in the house of comons or something like that, I dont remember. But yes, from a newspaper article. I LOVE 'clubbed themselves to death'. Cards... clubs... mwahahahaha. Yea, u all got it, I have to go state the obvious... | |
