The Bed's Too Big Without You
-----------------------------

Performed by: The Police
Tabbed by: Malav Trivedi

There are basically 2 parts to the song:

This is the main really cool bass line that we all know and love:

G------------------------------|
D------------------------------|
A--7-7-7-7---------------------|
E----------7-7--3-0-0----------|

This is the other bit:

G----------------------------|
D---------5-5----------------|
A----5-7------7-5-7-7--------|
E--7------------------0------|

**General Notes:

That "other bit" needs to be played really fast. If you practice it
enough you'll get the hang of it. It's also kind of hard to play the
"other bit" and sing at the same time.

I crossed paths with a girl Her eyes—the pact between the summer and autumn suns It was the monsoon I named her—sailor of a stormy pond I knew once How to be small A siren who talked in her sleep Gave me the branch of mistletoe Where was I? Within the indecisive walls Of that same cascade of word Turns on. Turns off. Turns on. Flaming resurrection of a charred alphabet Court of echoes I close my eyes The room is covered with moon. The hour is a crystal ball. At times—the page breathes Persistent cables of desires Unfazed by such a night I would penetrate silence But I saw you—like the snow—asleep among appearances You were in another day [paraphrased]

The way i look at this song is... When youre in a relationship somtimes it can happen that the person you love becomes a piece of the livingroom for you, you don't stop and think hey she might be gone some day! So in this story his pride got the best of him. He had this Illusion that he was strong but he lost his mask and she left him... this song is about appreciating what you have... and sadly in this case ... In what you HAD.

I love this song so much. I love the reggatta de blanc album. So many interesting songs. The bassline drives this somber song so nicely. My fav line is "made love to my pillow but it didn't feel right". It's so funny, but at the same time really sad. Like when you laugh while you're crying. I'd love to hear other peoples thoughts on this song!

I don't think this song has a secret meaning or anything. It's pretty straight forward. Awesome drum beat, gotta love it. "Get through the day but late at night Made love to my pillow but it didn't feel right"

'Bring On The Night' is a moody and graceful reggae ballad, graced by that wonderful Sting chorus, and 'The Bed's Too Big Without You' is more of the same. [George Starostin]

The hills are high in Malibu The air is clear—the skies are blue But where a black ledge seams the ground The yellow witch’s tracks are found And men grow drunk with ravishment Once they’ve caught the witch’s scent “You better take your man and go.” Some fairies warned—“Before the snow.” “The yellow witch hides in these hills. She’ll grab your men against their wills.” The longtime love, she shook her head “My boyfriend will not leave my bed and hammer on a speckled door hunting for some yellow whore. He signed up with some movie crew He’s safe enough in Malibu. Who listens to these fairy crones Their skin a’stickin’ to their bones? Their menfolk might go tailin’ round Chasing witch tracks on the ground But my man’s mine—I’m not afraid I’ll lose him to some stealin’ babe.” “Look chick—we were all the same as you when we first came to Malibu we know as only consorts can the curse of having half a man we know the end of this sad track with blinded eyes, he’ll give you the sack.” And when the mountainside grew red And pulsing, like a wanton’s bed Her boyfriend’s eyes—they flamed with fire Unhallowed passion and mad desire Now the longtime love knew what this meant Her man had caught the witch’s scent Before the first snow veiled the crest Like lace upon a woman’s breast She watched him leave his sheltering moor To roam in Malibu with some siren whore But no man has yet truly come to know Which way a yellow witch will go She flatters wild with tired lines She flashes tit—she coos—she whines So her man did what all men do Who chase some witch in Malibu At last over a steaming café au lait They were drinking in some chic café Beneath a snow of bullshit thick Witch cast her spell and turned her trick And even though she was a bitch He mated with the yellow witch And the longtime love, she found him there We ain’t sure what happened But we did hear her swear Clyde Robertson—The Yellow Witch of Caribou [paraphrased with cosmic humor]
