| I think this song is saying how he doesn't like how people play with words. They use eloquent words to make them seem intelligent or above other people when really it could simply be a masquerade for their own ignorance that would show through. So they hide behind their big eloquent (meaningless) words and phrases. He's caught off-guard (tied up and raped) he can't even defend himself because his words would appear inferior. He knows what he's getting at... his logic and knowledge is too deep to leave his tounge, so he replys with babble (de do do do, de da da da) simply meaning he dosen't have to justify himself to them. | |

| Yeah..i agree with those who think it's about people using big words for no reason. He wants it dumbed back down. | |

| great song which at first it appears as being about a funny subject or something.. and sting really found a excellent approach in those words to express how pointless it can sometimes be when you're facing only absurdities or too obvious lies (political song?) anyway sting at his best. lucide and brilliant back in the days, writting classics after classics. haa makes me miss him even more now | |

| And the actual songs are all winners - seven little pop/reggae/ska gems that deserve to be in everybody's collection. I suppose everybody knows the classic singles 'Don't Stand So Close To Me', with the infamous little sexy schoolgirl/big horny teacher theme, and 'De Do Do Do De Da Da Da' with some of the catchiest melodies of the epoch (and not so trivial either - the tempo changes alone in 'De Do Do Do' are pretty weird); but they're not any better than most of the rest. | I think it's simply him pushing away "deep philosophy." A lot of the time philosophy (especially in religion, politics, poetry, etc.) just gets ridiculous and over-the-top. It's just fancy words and sophist logic that attempts to just catch you off guard (i.e. rape you). So essentially he could just be saying he just choses to hear gibberish when it comes to that stuff because he's so sick of it. However, knowing Sting it was probably just a temporary mood. He obviously enjoys that stuff at times. | |

| Oh and it's "They're meaningless I know that's true." not "They're meaningless and all that's true." | |
