I agree with pretty much everything here, and to be honest I had no idea what it was about, never really read the lyrics in full. Anyway, excellent song, like it as much as lazarus.

'Something in your heart so cruel' kind of suggests that maybe she led him along a bit and didnt feel what she said she did, or wasnt in love with him as he is with her....('Cold inside my arms you are') . He thought it was the start of something beautiful, yet it was nothing to her. 'the less I find you give a damn'

Incredible song. The piano part in the middle is pure sex. On the other hand, in Porcupine Tree tradition, the lyrics are about unrequited love.

I think this song is about a guy who was in a long distance relationship with somebody, only to find that she was lying about everything. "Always in my thoughts you are Always in my dreams you are I've got your voice on tape I've got your spirit in a photograph Always out of reach you are" The guy is alone and thinking about her, seeing all the old pics and watching all the old videos, but no matter how hard he tries, he can't be with her physically. "Cold inside my arms you are Simple like a child you are I remember when you took my hand And led me through the rain Down inside my soul you are" Although he remembers all the good times with her and why he loves her the way he does, she begins to change. The person that he knows and holds onto is no longer her and is becoming a cold person. But no matter how hard he tries, again, he cannot let go of her either. "Mother lost her looks for you Father never wanted you I trust to love and then I find You never really felt the same Something in your heart so cruel" He talks to his loved ones about the situation, but despite their advice, takes a leap of faith and tried to chase her, only to find she no longer loves him. "The more I show the way I feel the less I find you give a damn The more I get to know the less I find that I understand" The more he shows his love, the more she refuses him. His friends who have been with her tell him what has actually been going on - how she talk bad about him to others, but pretended to love him anyways "Innocent the time we spent forgot to mention we're good friends I thought it was the start of something beautiful- now think again Now, because of this, they're no longer friends at all. What he thought was really going somewhere was actually nothing. That crap happened to me, and this song really appealed to me then... just my take on it!

I guess this song is about a person declaring his love to a girl, probably his close friend, and that love never being returned. Mostly, I think, because she's already dealing with issues of her own "Mother lost her looks for you Father never wanted you".
