| nah the guys sad until she comes back, then all his happiness comes creeping back. then as soon as he realises how happy he is with her back, its time for her to go again. i think it describes every relationship that is seperated by distance, that one person who you think you could really make it work with, but if only they lived in the same place as you or you had the time to pursue it. anything where the one you love has to leave and you only have a short time with them. and youre only happy when yorue with them *Sigh* | |

| Ok, I've dissected these lyrics for a while now, and the one term that throws me off is when he says that it "starts sinking in" when she leaves. That's a term that refers to truth. Only the truth, or reality, sinks in. So I think he knows, obviously, he's happy when she's there. But he considers breaking up when she's gone, because it's "sinking in" when she's gone that they are either incompatible, he's too needy, unfaithful, whatever. Hence the line "How can I do this to you right now," implying he had planned to break up with her. But in her presence, faced with that immediate joy, he's unable to. Just my two cents. | |

| definitely about a long distance relationship. he has a sense of longing for her whenever she is not there... its like time drags by counting down the weeks until they form mere days... He can only realise happiness when he doesnt have it... a case of u dont know what u got til its gone | |

| This sounds like its describing getting someone back and not realizing how good it was to have them around until they were gone and never really getting to enjoy the moments while the other was there. | |

| I agree with what most people have said, its about not realising what you have till its gone and how we take alot of things for granted. Great song. Never get sick of it | |

| I remember this song being on a sample cd that a restaurant I used to work at played. That had to be in 2003 or so. I have loved it ever since. To me this song is about a long distance relationship. So you come in and put your bags down I know there's something in the air How can I do this to you right now If you're over there when I need you here ^^^^ Those lines make me think that the girl has finally come into town, and he is happy to see her, but he is still thinking about an old fight that they had. | |
