Found this on a site: "Mary the Ice Cube", another new ditty about a man who falls in love with an ice cube and must cope with his loss once it melts, recalls some of the humor that has been ever present in the Primus catalog. "I think humor in music, and humor in just existing is a very wonderful thing. People that are overly serious I tend to find aren't very happy, or at least not very fun to be around," Claypool says.

I agree with bugmenot, although it may also resemble being a parent. Perhaps an overprotective father that's trying too hard on, and this overprotectiveness leads the daughter to abandon him completely.

I beleive this song means to not cherish something too much, because one day it will leave you...or it could be about an ice cube melting away.

yeah, while most of their songs have a slightly deeper meaning under the surface, it's mostly just humorous stuff. the name Primus, in itself, is pretty funny.

i think this song is about a meaningful relationship with an ice-cube as well, but obviously it could be seen as symbolic of a number of things, i spose its up to the listener to make his own judgements

im pretty sure that it has no meaning and that it is just about an ice cube. Primus is weird like that
