At this point in time, everyone has posted the “easy” way of ‘American Life’. 
I believe my way is how Les plays it, because I have seen him perform it live. 
And really, there is no easy way to play anything, just the way the artists, 
themselves, play it.

v = down strum
^ = up strum
h = hammer
/ = slide
s = slap
x = mute

**Note: While playing Fig. 1, when you mute a note, don’t completely mute 
it and keep your index finger on the 1st fret, D string. Or just kind of wiggle 
your fingers around on the strings to get the same effect Les does.
