Played on a four-string fretted bass with tremolo.
s: slap
p: pop
^: flamenco strum
x: muted note
b: bend
t: tap
h: hammer on
p: pull
/: slide up
\: slide down
Intro: Les plays the intro on what sounds like an upright bass.
G:---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
D:---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
A:-----/7------------------------/7------------------------------------------------------
E:-0-0----8\-7\-5\-3\-2-3-2-1/-0----8\--2------------------------------------------------
Repeat three times, then do this on the four-string fretted
bass with tremolo:
h h h ^
G:-------------------------------------9h10----------------------------------------------
D:-------7---------7---------7---------9h10----------------------------------------------
A:-----6---9-----6---9-----6---9-----6---------------------------------------------------
E:-5h7-------5h7-------5h7-------5h7-----------------------------------------------------
Main riff:
h ^ h ^
G:-----------9h10----------------------------9h10----------------------------------------
D:-------7---9h10-------7----------------7---9h10----------------------------------------
A:-----6---9----------6---9------------6---9----------6----------------------------------
E:-5h7------------5h7-------2-3-2--5h7------------5h7---3-2-1----------------------------
Verse:
h ^ h ^ h ^
G:-----------9h10-----------9h10-----------9h10-----------9h10---------------------------
D:-------7---9h10-------7---9h10-------7---9h10-------7---9h10---------------------------
A:-----6---9----------6---9----------6---9----------6---9--------------------------------
E:-5h7------------5h7------------5h7------------5h7--------------------------------------
Interlude:
^ s s s ^ ^ ^ s s s ^ ^ s s p s s p s s p s ^
G:-2-------2-2--2-------2-2-----0h1-----1h2-----2h3---2----------------------------------
D:-2-------2-2--2-------2-2---------------------------2----------------------------------
A:---3-3-2--------3-3-2------------------------------------------------------------------
E:--------------------------0-0-----0-0-----0-0-----0------------------------------------
Repeat twice, but the second you repeat it he does something
during the short period of silence, but you need a tremolo bar
to do it. I don't have one so when I play this song I don't do those
two notes, but for those of you that do, all you have to do is play
open E but depress the tremolo bar a little bit. The second time
you do it you play open E but depress the tremolo bar a little bit
more.
Outro:
G:---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
D:---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
A:---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
E:-3-2-1---------------------------------------------------------------------------------
If you have any comments or corrections, please tell me. Thanks
and enjoy!

| To correct aspacemonkey, the character played by R. Lee Ermey in Stanley Kubrik's Full Metal Jacket would be Gunnery Sergeant Hartman. Sergeant Baker is not exactly the same man. He does use the "steers and queers" bit used on Tex, but this is just supposed to be a generic drill sergeant or maybe even someone Les Claypool or someone from Primus might have known. | |

| 'And if you calls me "puddin Tame" I'll stomp you down, boy' I think it's less about war, which Too Many Puppies addresses, and more about how capitalist society changes us, and how we're forced to be capitalist ourselves. Or maybe it's another one about conformity (what with Seas of Cheese and Eleven etc. maybe it's a theme for this album) and how we're forced to conform by society ('To make you all a bit like me', 'rape your personality'). | |

| It was funny, my cousine who is in the millitary and currently in Iraq said in his training cam the drill sgt. seamed to quote both the movie (F.M.J.) and the excelent song based off of it. | |
