this song sounds better played an 8ve lower, which can b done by using an
upright bass setting on a digital mixer through an amp, but it really doesn't
make that much of a difference.

| I think it's about an immature, irresponsible fellow who only cares about partying and having a good time even though the world is blowing up before his eyes | |

| When people thought that the world was going to end then... but basically a song about living it up. Is a fun, classic party song. Love it. | |

| i dotn get why 1999 is put in it if its about war. i can understand that its about how life should be fun, wars should never happen, everyone should be happy. | |

| Look, I remember even myself 10 years back thinking "in the year 2000 the world will end". I think there were a lot of people spinning the same bs over the last few decades, the point of this song is this, Prince is very simply saying, enjoy life while youre living it, he doesn't care, just party like its 1999.. what the hell is so hard to understand about that? | |

| strange how people read and still not get the simplest things the obvious message here is everything is uncertain, live your life like it'd be the last day. an ode to positivism too, anyway that is all the main philosophy behind this one song [same as in many other songs of his ( let's go crazy, party up, sexuality, Pop life)] here Prince took the common 'supersticious' idea that armagedeon will arrive, the world ending in 2000 and stuff (hahaha) to base his 'hedonist' tale so no...the subject isn't at all about the end of the world , but more about the world being such a mad place, the best thing you can do if not saving it.. is live your time to the fullest | |

| A song about the end of the world. Destruction. It's amazing people only think of this as a party song but its about the end of the world. | |
