hmm i've just started listening to the raconteurs today, a really good band i must say, i can see jack white in a totally different light. anyways back to the song since this is songmeanings.net, not i love you so much, you rule.net if you get what i mean. i believe this song is about a man in a relationship and feels like he should take the next step into married life and settle down into a stable life instead of the uncertainity of singledom. But he is questioning whether it is the right move for him to make as he is not sure whether to leave his old life behind and whether he is buying into a stereotype of stability. those are my thoughts anways xoxox

The Saboteurs are The Raconteurs. it is just that there is an australian jazz band called the raconteurs, so the (u.s.) raconteurs are releasing and touring as The Saboteurs in Australia. only there though.

I agree, this is good but overhyped. I don't think it's about a fear of commitment in general, but making the wrong commitments. I think the song is about how so many people get married for all the wrong reasons, namely the pressure from family and friends to get married, have kids, settle down, buy a house, etc. and how this person realizes where this road leads down and knows that it will not give them happiness, but rather a sense of disappointment. Thus, you need to look at what are the reasons behind making a commitment, and the singer is remarking how unfortunate it is that many people make such decisions for all the wrong reasons. But that's just me.

It's a catchy song. I think it's pretty much about how a guy realizes the life that he has been living is bland and boring, and though he thought he wanted normalcy and the picturesque quiet life with family and all, he now sees that it's not what he wants and everything he has he has "settled" for
