Honestly, this isn't one of my favorites from Radiohead. As great as they were, the themes of Yorke's writing sometimes got a bit repetitive, and this is one of those instances (as is most of The Bends).. Still, as many Dancing Nancies (from DMB, basically spells out that Yorke "I'm a weirdo, like everyone else, who comes to that realization, not like everyone else, and gets depressed about it" theme) songs that Yorke writes, they are all great, but I'd prefer about any track from Kid A or OK Computer over this - the best track from The Bends.

This song doesn't mean anything. You could say it is about your relationship with people or about drugs or about god or about anything. Basically the song means you think its good but its bad and there are no indications as to what "it" is.

this, along with High and Dry and Just is a fav track from teh Bends for me....but, it's kinda disconcerting when I think about it....if you think you belong--that's nothing more than a nice dream....anyway....it's still beautiful.

This song is so beautiful and elegant. it's an example of the way the band has with music, to make something simple sound some incredible.

You will never be strong enough. You will never feel like you belong enough. I am strong enough. Yeah, nice dream. I really feel like I finally belong. I am self-worthy. Yeah, nice dream. I

The "sea would electrocute us all" line reminds me of one of my friends-suposed to be my best, not so much anymore. Every time i'd call him he'd never pick up, and he rarely returned my calls, no matter how urgent i sounded. We made plans a few times, but he had "forgotten" about them and made bigger, better plans, without me, of course. So the "sea would electrocute..." bit i think is about always having some grandiose excuse as to why you can't come help. even though, of course they'd love to come help. (nice dream) in a nutshell, you get this glorified image of a person, you friend, and they turn out to be just as flawed a human as you are, if not more so. whats worse, any loseness you felt wasnt really there. you took the friendship for granted but it was nothing but a daydream. and they, well they took you for granted.

they don't love you like a brother, they don't protect or listen to you, they didn't dig you a garden, give you sunshine or make you happy. That was a dream. It's a sweet and lovely song, the happy light tone noticeably contrasts the dissapointment and loneliness that the lyrics infer. Truth is, you weren't asleep, you were just hopeful and optimistic; and it was a nice dream.

I thought Thom had said it was an actual dream he had.

The main themes and feelings I get from radiohead are powerlessness, insecurity, and alienation from mainstream. This song seems to deal with these feelings, and say that it's ok that you don't fit in, find something to do with yourself and the talent you might have.

this is by far the best song from the bends i think. the way thom sings is incredible. i think the first signs of the band breaking away from grunge and alternitive rock to the darker more mysterious radiohead we know today. try listening to this song when you are high, and i mean hunting geese with a rake high, and you will forget about everything. as for interpertation, i think its about how we fantasize and want life to be just perfect.
