Band: Rage Against The Machine
Album: Self-Titled
Song: Township Rebellion
Tuning: Drop D (G, D, A, D)
This Correction By: Niall 'Uncle Clitsta' (lates_dude@hotmail.com)
formally known as clitz
Previously Tabbed by: R. Allen Canterbury
Note: someone requested it on BTA, I thought wtf? coz it was already there
but there was some mistakes.
What a lot of people dont realise is that Tim uses a lot of bass chords.

Canterbury's Note:-
This is a pretty cool song, but it sounds kinda weird with the bendy thing
going on at the beginning. What I call Fig 1. is something that sounds like
it might fit w/ the song. I don't know if the guitar plays that part w/ an
octaver or not. 5b means fret 5, pluck, bend up 1/2 step. Listen to the song
to get the rhythm of that part. You may want to use light distortion too
(which leads me to believe the guitar plays that part.). If the guitar does
actually play Fig 1., then the bass just rests during those parts.

Hey bigwill what about the very next line? "Lord, I wish I could be peacful But there can be no sequel" To me it's a call for a violent rebellion if necesary, but the writer, zack, find's it hard to not use violence against the violent. I have to agree with him, when we stand peacefully, and we are tazed, mased, and beaten almost on a daily basis it seems, WHAT THE FUCK ELSE ARE WE SUPPOSED TO DO? I personally practice vigilance not violence, but fuck man, there is only so much a man can take before he must defend himself.

I personally think that this is kind of like a sequel to Know Your Enemy. Just alot of borrowed lines and a similliar guitar solo.

Great Song... not the best of ratm, but great though. Love the lyrics! Now freedom must be fundamental In Johannesburg or South Central On the mic, 'cause someone should tell 'em To kick in the township rebellion

This song, as with most of their songs touches on a variety of subjects. It obviously focusses primamily on South Africa and apartheid which ruled the country from 1948 - 1994 - when Zack wrote the lyrics for the song, apartheid was still in force. In short, apartheid was a system of racial segregation. People who were not white were severly oppressed by the government and were forced to live in appaling conditions - away from the white population. (read more here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Apartheid Zack also likens this regime to the situation in South Central Los Angeles. At the time of writing the lyrics the area was home to many black families and was one of the poorest and most run down parts of LA County. It rarely recieved any government funding and news broadcasters tended to focus solely on crime in the area. Gotta get wreck 'Till our necks never swing on a rope From here to the cape of no hope Blacks were not allowed onto streets of towns in the Cape Colony and had to carry a pass at all times.
