goddamn. people on this site gotta do their research. NAFTA is the North American Free Trade Agreement. agreement between Mexico, the U.S, and Canada. no, mexico was not tricked into it and is not trapped in it. it was signed by the mexican government, because it greatly benefits the rich of mexico (who make up the government), even though it greatly hurts the poor, who had almost no say in the signing, if any. the name "Wind Below" is derived from the title of a section in an article written by Subcommandante Marcos, entitled "A Storm and A Prophecy". the section is entitled "The Second Wind: A Wind from Below". it was written in August 1992, and released to the public January 27, 1994, and can be found in his book "Our Word is Our Weapon". "the masked ones" this is a reference to the Zapatistas, who always wear black ski masks to hide their faces. "the Ayala kin are comin' back around again" this is possibly a reference to the municipality of Ayala in Morelos, Mexico. Emiliano Zapata was born in a town within this municipilaty. the Zapatistas see themselves as the ideological heirs to Emiliano Zapata, and they derived their name from his. "them bury life wit IMF shifts" this is possibly a reference to the International Monetary Fund, an international organization which oversees exchange rates and balance of payments, also offering financial assistance when needed. it has often been criticized for for supporting capitalistic military dictatorships which are friendly to American and European corporations. they've also been criticized for being apathetic towards democracy, human rights, and labor rights. lastly, the criticisms generated a controversy which helped start up the Anti-Globalization movement, which the Zapatistas consider themselves part of. Chol, Tzotzil, Tojolobal, and Tzeltal are all Mayan indigineous groups (as well as languages). These ethnic groups all reside in Chiapas, the home of the Zapatista Movement. GE (general electric), NBC, Disney, and ABC are all large multinational corporations based in America. GE has been caught trying to profit any way possible, including dumping 100,000 tons of hazardous chemicals, illegally selling weapons to Israel, or defrauding the American government. "they force our ears to go deaf to the screams in the south" this is a continuation of the above-mentioned corporations, all who are part of the media. their broadcasts, it seems, try to put our minds on other things and attempt make us forget about the horrible things happening in Chiapas and other parts of Mexico and Central America. if i made any mistakes, feel free to correct me.
