The reason he mentions poetry is because poetry is commonly written with hidden meanings. The Chinese goverment tried to control all writings, but if they couldn't clearly see the meaning or thought it was something else, then they might not do anything about it.

Actually, the lines "It's so plain for me to see; my only weapon I call poetry" is one of my favourite lines from the entire song. It's obviously about Tiananmen Square, but I think that it uses that incident as a metaphor for standing up. I love Rancid for this, they have the most intelligent lyrics of any punk band out there, save perhaps The Clash, as freehat117 pointed out. In another Rancid song, "Start Right Now", they have the line "Machiavelli owns a machine gun now"..brilliant, really.

ah, i don't really see anything wrong with his rhyming...just his unique-ness? :] or maybe...shows that he's still a kid at heart when it comes to poetry? i don't mind it.
