Shallow Be Thy Game
By the Red Hot Chili Peppers
From the album One Hot Minute
Tabbed by Martin Peters
B = Bend string a 1/2 step
Bass
Note the bass doubles the guitar during the actual intro,
with some effects like Auto-wah and Dynamic Flilter, but I thinks
it's too hard to play exactly.
But anyway, the line goes something like this:

| Obviously a song detesting the oppressive catholic church. Up until about 1600 or so the church "burned" at the stake pretty much anybody who disagreed with them and their "holy" teachings, claiming those they punished were speaking for satan. Which is a flawed manner of thinking in the first place since "satan" (as it was first intended) literally translates into ANYTHING that opposes christianity's false teachings. The bible is NOT the word of god. The bible was written by man claiming to be speaking in the name of god. Awesome song. I'm so glad people this century (as opposed to centuries past) are opening their eyes to the lie of organized religion, specifically christianity. | |

| This isn't about Christianity. And it's not against God. It's against the Catholic Church. RHCP isn't just bashing God. They're bashing the church because they feed on most people's need to believe in some sort of God and the fear that they have for the things they don't know and for the things happening to the world right now. And BlamedTonight314, it's HALLOWED Be Thy Name. | |

| AK's personal view on religion. Whether you agree or not, this is one of their best songs imo. | |

| Yeah, I agree with Boozm, I don't think Keidis is actually attacking God in this song, just the people who use God as a way to get people to act a certain way. | |

| I agree, its a song against the fear and hatred organised religion instills in people, and the way that a scary hell has been used as a punishment when it would be nicer to have a "loving god" | |

| I'll subscribe to the whole anti-Catholic analysis of this song - the "purple sashes" priests wear, the "smoke on which to choke" being the incense Catholics use at church, and the whole guilt/fear thing they're famous for. Despite the fact I disagree, that's a good analysis though Jware. | |

| This song scarily echoes my strong views on religion... 'a rival to your bible' is he referring to nhimself here? i think that would work better, because he's basically saying, 'god exists, and he's a loving one, not that hating b*stard pope constantine decided to dream up when compiling the bible that expressed all hbis own, personal ideals'.. although perhaps not in the detail, but thats the basics of it- christianity as we know it is nothing like the christianity we had 2000 years ago, its been manipulated and altered to suit individuals needs, and i guess this is kinda whats being said through the song-f*ck the new sh*t, go back to the roots of christianity... like the heretics that were seen through the knights templar-fighting for the truth, not the biblical bull thats known now... i did say i had fairly strong views... | |

| jware i agree with ya!!! i do actually believe that rhcp is a very spiritual band... chad even has a tattoo of Mary... and in "Venice Queen" kiedis says "I know you don't believe in God do you still disagree" obviously he himself has faith in God... all these facts could support the fact that this song should be taken the same way as jware had seen it... | |
