| In Anthony Kiedis' autobiography, he writes that this song is about when he was fired from the Red Hot Chili Peppers for his drug abuse. This was the time he needed to admit he had a problem, so he phoned his mum and she flew him to where she lived. The clinic for heroin abuse had closed, so they went to the Salvation Army. Here, he underwent 20 days of meetings. He phoned up the Flea (Mike Balzary, Bassist) to see how things were going and he flew back to the band to join up with them. He wrote this song on his flight back to the band, it is the story about his battle with drugs in the Salvation Army. | |

| well almost every song, prior to mothers milk was about drugs, or the lyrics were influenced by them. however fight like a brave is either about freedom, freedom from civilization, he says "you can be from park ave, or from a park bench. park ave is a rich street, a park bench meaning your a bum, a polotician or a bitch princess, so you can be important in the government, but the government doesnt mean anything, ts about natural humanity, not human civilization, the primitive human instict to fight | |

| Angela40 makes a convincing argument that this song is about drugs, and seeing that it was written so soon after his recovery, I think she is right, but don't think every song is about drugs, it gets really annoying seeing the same perspective on these analysations. | |

| hey, not every peppers song is about drugs!!!!! you guys who said so are wrong! hey, u have to see this vidio clip its my favourite! especially when antwans in that millitary suit and is yelling at the judge people... hot a "brave" is a native american warrior? theres american indians in the video too! Anthony is part Native. And i think alot of this song is about discrimination to his race. just like in the song 'Johnny kick a hole in the sky' how he says, "My race has been discraced" Well i think that this song is about how no one should be discriminated "You see it doesn't matter, Where you come from". and too stand up in what you believe in, and rebeling as a non conformist. it could possibly have some reference in it, but not every rhcp song is about drugs and sex you know! Although alot is! LOL | |

| I think this is one of those 'take no shit' songs. It's telling you to get up and stand up for what you believe in. | |

| I always thought about it as a very positive song, about standing up for yourself and your beliefs, and not following the crowd ("don't be a slave"), quite a popular theme in chilis songs... but now you mention it about the recovery from drugs, some of the lyrics do seem to point that way ("get it out your arms because its time to start fresh", "the fire in your brain")..... | |

| I think it's just about fighting whatever you're sick of. If you were sick of being addicted and wanted to fight your addictions then you could take it to mean that. It only has a Native American theme because Anthony loves Native Americans. I heard that somewhere but I don't know why. | |
