Red Hot Chili Peppers
Higher Ground

Bassist : Flea

This is a another great song for exerciseing your Poppin and Slappin.
Throw the thumb at the E string for your rythm, and pop the D string
for the accented notes. The beauty is he plays a full loop at the
beginning so you can find the timeing very easily.
G ---------------------------------|
D --------2-----------5--------7---|
A ---------------------------------|
E --0--0-----0H--3--3-----5--5-----|

Now you'll notice that besides the chorus, there is one more noticable
change with the groove. Same timeing, same basic feel, but a bit more
complicated of a move. Now slap the lower notes (2nd fret E, open A, 2nd fret A)
and pop the higher pitched notes.

G --------------------2--------4--|
D --------4-----------------------|
A --------------0--0-----2--2-----|
E --2--2-----2--------------------|

Now the chorus can catch you off guard if your not used to timeing.
It's pretty straight forward, but I noticed other tabs missed the
real funk. Give her nuts on this:

G ------------------------------------------|
D ------------------------------------------|
A ------------------------------------------|
E --5--5--5--5p0--3--3p0--0--0--0--0--0--0--|

Then connecting the chorus back into the song is a quick bit of
finger practice for your fretted hand. Contrary to other tabs
he works a little harder then you might want.

G --9--8--6----------------------------------|
D -----------9--7--6-------------------------|
A --------------------7--6--5----------------|
E -----------------------------7--666--5--0--|

Now after that last open, slap it again, and repeat the verse!
The outro of the song is too fun to regiment, lose yourself in
a scale and slap to the rythm and it's way more fun than listening
to me.

Best of luck!
