people have always been trying to make connections between rolling stones and bowie especially since the suspected song trading. so i really don't believe in that. The lyric speaks for itself and I think it's chrystal clear what it means.

I think this song is about a man and a woman who love each other very much eventhough they fight a lot, they don't have a lot of money and they just can't have a very good life.. So it's better if they split up and go seperate ways eventhough deep inside they still love each other..

Song was sung to me by my ex-husband immediately following our divorce. I still cry many years later when I hear it.

I read in a book once that this song is referring to Angie, David Bowie's wife and that it's either a love song to her or to Bowie himself.
