If you think the version was cool from the 2003 self title EP wait until the album 1985 youll be blown away. same with set it off

I've always listened to the EP version and just recently heard the 1985 one and wow. It's amazing. I really was caught by surprise by the backwards part. I thought something was wrong with the CD at first. But anyway about the meaning, I agree with most of you, I think it's about how the love's gone, and he doesn't want her to come back to him, or fall back on him so he thinks, "why wait for you?" That's just my take on it.
