| I looked up cadence incase you felt incapable of doing so yourself. Because I feel like it clarifies things if one actually knows what he’s saying. Cadence is a intonation of speech, that has a balanced, rhythmic flow, like in poetry. But more importantly, it can also be a progression of chords moving to a harmonic close, point of rest, or sense of resolution (because she is trying to find resolution and he is blowing her off). Hmm? | |

| of course its about a guy and a girl. they of course had some kind of falling out, and there's still that little bit of flirtatiousness left. those little leftover feelings are resurfacing and the guy is trying to change the subject by talking about spiders and shit. wow can i relate to this motherfucker. this girl i used to date is now dating my best friend, and there's still those little feelings left over. we will still flirt and shit, and then everytime we get on the subject of how it used to be, we change it real quick. | |

| I interpreted that when he speaks of her cadence he is talking about the repetition of the conversation topic. She keeps bring up the same question and he keeps changing the conversation. The more I read the lyrics the more I wonder who is saying what. Is the female trying to talk about "us" or is she the one changing the subject? Because there is a cadence in the chorus. If you really want to get into it, a swell in music is when the volume gets gradually louder than gradually softer. Try fitting that in to this song interpretation. Wow, that opens up a whole new meaning to a lot of things. To me, this is most likely a break up song. Somebody doesn't want to face the truth. | |

| yeah. i think this song could basically be any one of those situations. his ex-girlfriend, girl he wants... but he is definatly embarrased and realizes her desicion to stay as friends and only friends. so he repsects that, but it hurts him to talk about it and he doesn't want to know her reason for rejecting him. in my opinion. | |

| Just a note...in music a cadence is like a series of chords or sounds that ends a thought or phrase....whic to me is the noises you hear at the end of the last "okay" in the chorus... This leads me to believe that the chorus is supposed to be said by the girl he is talking about in the first verse.. "And the cadence of what she says is swell" Just my thought.. By the way, I also saw the commerical that this song is featured in and I almost crapped my pants. It was such a good and artsy commercial too. :D | |

| It's a breakup song. She is breakin gup with him and he doesn't want to talk about it because it hurts too much. That's why he disagrees with the phrase that "words can't kill me". And as another posted above, he wants to avoid the discussion by mentioning the spider on the wall. Re: algebra, I'd assume this is a girl he sat near in algebra class and now he wishes he had studied instead of falling for her. | |
