| this song is effing fantastic. i saw some video footage from the tearing down of the wall put to this track, and it really moves you, ya know? i love in germany - every big town/city has a chunk of te wall somewhere, whether it's in a museum or just free-standing downtown somewhere. it'd be nice to think we learned something from all that.... | |

| ahhh, 1989... the future really was in the air (I come from CZECHOSLOVAKIA, which survived only 3 years in the new world...), so this song means a lot to me... | |

| The moskva is a nazi club. And down to gorky park is a hebrew metaphor (when translated into hebrew) for "til i die". "an august summer night" this line implies it was in the northern hemisphere since it is winter in august in countries such as australia. So this line narrows the nazi club down to about 74 countries, germany maybe? or russia? "The world is closing in"... too right, they've no where to go. No idea what the chorus is about, sounds good tho. "walking down the street/distant memories/are buried in the past forever" - this suggests that people may have forgave for the world war. the lyrics that follow are "i follow the moska/down to gorky park" again making a point, but he wont forgive he will keep on fighting. The rest of the song doesn't make much sense. | |

| This seriously is one of the greatest songs ever made. And the first time it really hit home for me was when a bunch of my mates from Romania performed it acoustically. Incredible. | |

| Simonlee is really wrong: As mentioned above me, the first two lines refer to the famous park in Moscow, and ceratinly not to some nazi/jewish conflict. Since I actually understand hebrew, I can say for sure that Gorky park has nothing to do with "til I die". Really. The stuff that people say here. | |

| Hey Simonlee ... I think you're a little confused there buddy(unless you're being facetious on purpose). In the context of the song, I'm pretty sure the moskva is not a nazi night club, its simply a transliteration of the russian word Moscow, and is the name of a large river which runs through the former Soviet capital. Gorky Park, again, is a famous landmark in Moscow, as it is the main amusement park for the city, and is situated along the Moskva river. The Scorpions simply wish to portray the changing of times surrounding the fall of the Iron Curtain, as one meandering down by the Moskva towards Groky Park would be able to hear the sounds of people and amusement-park activities going on; the "wind of change" spreading the newfound feelings of freedom to those who previously may not have been able to enjoy the simple pleasures of playing games or riding a ferris wheel. | |

| I can't believe no one has commented on this one yet. How do you capture a year in this song. Maybe it was just that I was coming of age at the time, but this one captures 1989, with all its magic and hope perfectly. It never ceases to "take me to the magic of the moment," so to speak. It seems to me the story of westerner who has grown up throwing rocks against the Iron Curtain awaking one night while "Following the Moskva Down to Gorky Park" to realize that even the "Soldiers passing by" are just like him. "Like brothers." It was before the Russian Mafia, before the collapse of the Union and Chechnya, before September 11, when it seemed like maybe, just maybe, all the big troubles were about to be solved. Amazing. | |

| I don't see what's wrong with interpreting this song as something other than the Berlin Wall's fall, i.e. the WWII reference. At its broadest interpretation, it's about the winds of change, and how larger world events can affect individuals' outlook on life, the future, etc. But yeah, I wasn't around in Vietnam or WWII, so the fall of the USSR was one of the big events of my childhood. | |

| This is one of those songs that gets me all emotional. Not like crying and all that, but it just has that energy that seperates it from the rest. It puts me at peace and is something I can sing along with at the top of my lungs and just feel good about everything. | |
