| Great song!!! I think that something about racism can be drawn from it, but I think when he says "You say you want to be like me, Well boy let me tell you, you didn't know what I've seen." relates to how some people hear some kind of music, start acting like the social group that listens to it, but can't relate to it at all. We call them posers. Seeing how Lajon is black, he's trying to say he's being himself and not just in a rock band because he thinks it's cool. | |

| Okay i'll break this down Voices call, they call out my name They say I'm different well I'm not the same You say you want to be like me Well boy let me tell you, you didn't know what I've seen. ( i would have to agree that this section of the song is definately about posers...people at his concerts screaming his and wishing they could be like him..not knowing the things he's gone through and not being able to relate) They say the devil lives in my soul I promise not to let him take control (not too clear on this part but best guess would have to be that rock music is not "generally" accepted and that people tend to think of it as "devils music") I'm minding my own business. I ain't doing nothing wrong ( this is definatly about racism i think he feels singled out because he's black espcially among a genre of music typically listened to by white people and i feel that he's basically saying that he's no different than anyone else) Shadows follow So close behind me I look in the mirror I don't like what I see. Oh God, Can't you help me get out of here I feel like I'm living deep in hell. (I feel that he's trying to say that people are always watching him/ talkin behind his back "shadows follow so close behind me" and that it makes him feel uncomfortable in his own skin and it makes him hate himself) I'm minding my own business I ain't doing nothing wrong ( as a bi-racial that's how i see it..I'm half black and half white..so i kind of know what it's like on both ends..just being a metal head i get talked about by my black side of the family..and the fact that i'm half black gets me talked about by my white side of the family and that would be my shadow) | |
