Tinderbox - In this case Simple Minds were approached to record the song. Upon seeing it, Jim Kerr was skeptical as it wasn't their type of music. However, more than anything he and the other members wanted to break into the American market. The American market had always been the ultimate goal for them...so they recorded it. It worked but I don't think Jim Kerr ever felt for that song like he did for all the ones he wrote himself. Anyway, that's what I got from reading 1001 articles on Simple Minds in my younger years. I was a huge fan.

For "drum beat" read bassline :-) though the drums follow it. It's upfront only in the break before the last chorus. I know a lot of people really love this song, but I feel "Love Song" or "Ghost Dancing" to give just a couple, are much more powerful.

Wow for one of the greatest songs on the whole world this is the only recognition it gets i mean what these ppl actually wrote is great and exactly how i feel except for the theory about the hooker lol. anyways it is a very hopeful song for anyone who is in true love that may find their high school sweetheart after 5 or 10 years and hopefully start over again. if me and my girlfriend break up then thats the sorta thing that id want to happen is to have a second chance.

Jim said in interviews later on that he felt it was a tearjerker lyric and not a very good song - it became their biggest U.S. hit but wasn't included on the next album. Different from most of their 80s stuff and more mainstream, The band were pros enough to record it very good, but I still feel Ultravox or some german band could've done it. T he drum beat is taken from The Talking Heads hit "Road To Nowhere".

A very wicked song. It was so perfect for the Breakfast Club, one of the best films ever in my opinion, and definetly the best teen film ever. Most teen movies are crap after all

This song was written for this movie. Meaning writers who wrote the movie wrote the lyrics for this song for the Simple Minds to sing. Since it was their only big hit they were cheesed since they didn't even write it themselves. The lyrics are about the 5 students who become friends after realizing they're not so different after all and that they don't want to be forgotten in each other's hearts, or ours.
