Artist: Slipknot
Song: Purity
Album: Self Titled (the original release)
Track #: 9
Bassist: ‘#2’ Paul Gray
Transcribed by: Marc Brokate
Tuning: no matter what you use cuz Slipknot definitely play 2 tunings.
On the s/t they used Drop B, but on most of the tracks on Iowa they used Drop A.
So you use either Drop B (B-F#-B-E) or Drop A (A-E-A-D) for this song.
Start right after ‘Frail Limb Nursery’

| aside from the story about purity, ive always interpreted this as a song about being trapped; confined by her life, the people and things around her, and even by who she is. shes waiting for someone who can understand her, but no one really gives a shit, so shes just waiting to die. thats just my idea- again, could be a double meaning. | |

| this is slipknots best song, the drumming, coreys voice, i think the instrumental could tell the story without vocals. im not a huge slipknot fan, but i have about 12 or 13 songs (this being the best out of them to me), this song is so scary, its extremely real (even though in reality its not), i could see someone reading the site, or hearing the song and actually going through with the whole scenerio, thats how disgusting and fucked up this world can be. the girls name that this happened to in the story is Purity, maybe meaning "innocence" anyone else look at it that way? like the burial of innocence by maybe drugs or sex or something like that? people try to help, but she just turns her back and continues to struggle, ultimately resulting in her demise. just my thoughts, could be like a double meaning. great song. | |

| i love the story behind this song. i think it kind of takes away from it that the purity knight story is fake, i was so disappointed when i found out. it's still creepy though if you go to that website...seriously, whoever made up all that shit has too much time on their hands. it's scary even if it's not a real crime because someone was still twisted enough to come up with that whole story. | |

| By far the best ballad type song of slipknot, i was lucky enough to see this song live and it was like no other feeling, like for the length of that song, nothing matters except what is running through your head. | |

| i think that when corey says "i cant die" i think it symolizes dilusion and how shes not accepting that shes gonna die so there for she makes her self think that it wont happen....she tells herself repeadativly that its not true and is litteraly going crazy......i dontknow i may be wrong... ~heather~ | |
