First of all, let me make you aware that Andrew McMahon didn't write this song: Josh Partington (guitarist) wrote this. i love this song. but i do see where you guys say its stalkerish. but he's just basically trying to get his point across that he really needs this person in his life, and he definitely has an interesting way of saying that. well done, great song. amazing album. soco rocks.

Yes, explaining in an incredibly obsessive way. Seriously. Listen to the words. Andrew is amazing, yes. I'm aware. I've seen SoCo four times in the last nine months. That doesn't mean that it isn't about stalking someone. By your logic, "Me and the Moon" is about when Andrew was a woman and murdered someone. Which I don't think happened. It does start pretty innocently. It took me quite a few listens before I picked up on it, but the obsessive angle is there. "You better not, you better not run"... hmm... a bit threatening... "Cause by now, I know you better than you know yourself And I know what you really need What you need, or I need" Very controlling, very "I know what's best for you". Don't just dismiss it because Andrew is such an amazing guy or whatever. Just because you write it doesn't mean you've done it or felt it. Seriously.

Wow, Josh has some really amazing lyrics. I agree that this song is a bit hostile..especially this part: "If I woke up alone I won't stop till I find you and you are with me Cause by now, I know you better than you know yourself And I know what you really need" But, like TheseBoots I never really thought it was stalkerish until reading these posts. Now, though, it makes complete sense!

haha.... very well said.. ok yes i see the stalking bit.. but i think moreso than that, he poetically and lyrically showed how much he needs this girl in his life. it seems like that moment of desperation when someone is threatening to leave, and that initial panic, realizing that you are nothing without the other person. i think he chose these "stalkerish" lyics to show how desperately he needs this person... regardless-- awesome song and cd!

I may end up catching shit for this, but does this sound a bit... stalkerish? Or rather, obsessed, and not in the good way. I mean, the language he uses makes it sound like he can't stand living without this girl, in an irrational sense: "And I know what you really need What you need, or I need But either way this is where you should be Here with me, or I'll bleed, So much that you wont believe" It's like he's saying it's what she needs, but it's actually what he needs. Still, it's a cool song.

this is the first song i heard of soco and i love it. it has kinda threatening undertones to it especially the you better not run bit but basically i feel its a song about the feeling of desperation the guy has and how he vows to be with her forever making sure shes okay, its love to the point of obsessiveness but i think its still a reli gud song and i love it tons and tons xox

hey, i understand how y'all might think it's a little stalkerish...but it never occured to me until i read your comments. to me it's not stalkerish....i think it's more about a relationship that keeps being broken up, then put back together, and now that they're together, the guy doesn't want it to go because he knows this is how it should be. he's willing to go to the end of the earth to keep her with him.

i think people sometimes read into songs to much like the whole stalker issue. It's a simple concept about love and the feeling you get when you truly deeply care for another.

Wow, yeah. I didn't see any stalker-ish undertones before reading the comments for this song. However, when I heard the lines "Cause by now, I know you better than you know yourself" and "You better not run", I got mixed feelings. Does this fellow believe her to be a fragile, inadequate being who needs his guidance for survival? Other than that, it just makes me feel the narrator is so desperate not to lose this person. She must be so significant to him, that he feels he cannot stand life without her by his side. Beautifully done.
