| Andrew generally prefaces this song in concert with something like, "This is a song about breaking it off and getting fucked over." And BrandNewBoardshorts... get a fucking life. | |

| I think it's a song where Andrew wanted to get out his feelings about having to part with the band's manager (who was a good friend of theirs), but deciding to use a metaphor of a failed relationship with a girl. This way more people could relate to it, he could get in one break up song (which he couldn't do otherwise, since he's been with the same girl for the past two years), and he wouldn't have to write a song called "iF U C Brent". I have no idea how anyone could say "North" was the biggest letdown of 2003. Sure, it takes a lot more to get use to than "Leaving Through the Window", but everything about it is so amazing. The lyrics, the music, the vocals... | |

| they are equally amazing (the cds)! but anyway when i first heard this song i thought it was about a not-so-great relationship where the couple fought most of the time and the girl thought it was just amusing in a way, but the guy gets pissed off about it and is going to get back at her for hurting him as much as she has with her stupid fighting. but now that i read it it makes more sense about the former manager. this song is really not as pleasant as you would first think- and i mean pleasant as in sweet or a day-in-the-park... the lyrics are vengeful and the like.. i love this song though. when they played it at uci bren everyone went nuts =) | |

| I am so glad that songmeanings is finally back up. Anyway this song is amazing like all other soco songs. I was pissed to find out that "North" was voted the biggest let down cd of 2003, because that is so much crap. I will admit when i first heard it, it was not what i was expecting or maybe even hoping for, but then i listened to it again and its one of the best cd's i've ever heard and i know so many people who will agree with me. It's so amazing and different. I love it. | |

| "This is the only lonely picture Waiting on my floor Littering my shore" He is at home remembering her "This is the last true burning letter Given to a girl Written by a boy Living in a world created to destroy" She is at home forgetting him "But if I built you a city, Would you let me? Would you tear it down?" He is willing to do anything for her, but would like to know if it will be in vain or not, and he wants to know if she hates him so much that she would let him do it first before she lets him know it was pointless "But there you go for the last time I finally know now what I should have known then That I could still be ruthless if you let me" I think it’s saying that he was too nice while in the relationship, and now he knows that he needed to be more callous. I think the rest of the song is him progressively getting more and more angry then finally becoming 'ruthless' "Forget me Forget me Forget me, yeah I'll raise towers and climb them Rivers and walk them Oceans to drown in You won't make a sound in" Once he realized that her intentions are to forget him he gets angry and says that he will go out of his way to find her and make her feel as horrible as he does. | |

| To me this song is about a relationship (I can see how it could be about the how deal with the manager). It starts off with "This is the only lonely picture...this is the last true burning letter given to a girl written by a boy." The song is his "last letter" to the girl. I like the line "If I build you a city, would you let me? Would you tear it down?" I think it has to do with expectations. It asks, "If I did something for you, would you appreciate it?" I can definitely tell the lyrics have a very bitter tone. "I finally know now what i should've known then that I could still be ruthless if you let me." Whoa. It does sound like he wants revenge. And "Oceans to drown in, you won't make a sound in." It sounds like he was the one that got hurt, and the girl mistreated him and he doesn't want her to forget about what he did. That's what I got from it. | |

| love this song...i prefer to hear it as a song on a relationship, but thats just me...listening to it like its about their manager just doesn't do it for me. "This is your ghost that kneels before me/ Razors on her tongue, a body full of oxygen" christ, i love those lines so much...they're chilling but beatiful i agree with Tarak162 about the ruthless thing...he's bitter about the relationship having ended and he's saying 'if you'd take me back, i could be as ruthless to you as you were to me' and that type of thing, almost like he's desperate to be back with the girl but kind of wants to hurt her too, as a way for revenge. but that's just my interpretation | |
