| That's nice - however, lets talk about the song. It's obviously how he feels about a girl. He talks about how he is going to have to leave (for tour maybe?) but she won't leave him. He talks about how he is going to be there for her "Don't forget I'll hold your head." | |

| I think this song is about death. Dont forget I'll hold your head Watch the night sky fading red Red... meaning blood? Like black out. In the car, the radio leaves me searching for your star A constellation of frustration driving hard Then you know how people say you're in the sky and you're a star when you die? That's what I got from out of those lines. | |

| I think it is unrequited. He tells her not to wake, like maybe he does not want her to know how he feels about her. They may be friends. And what he means by "you won't be leaving me" I think he means she will always be on his mind/heart. | |

| I total understand that. That's a really reasonable conclusion. I love this song because it's like MY lullaby. 'Cause soon I'll be leaving you. But you won't be leaving me' | |

| I listened to this song alot in my car and the pictures that would come to my mind had a surreal, dream-like quality to it. When I listen to this song I think about a man who is watching his loved one lying in critical condition (and in pain) in a hospital bedroom. -"Close your eyes, and I will be swimming -Lullaby's fill your room, and I will be singing -Singing to only you -Dont forget I'll hold your head -Watch the night sky fading red..." His loved one is dying and as she begins to close her eyes and "sleep", the image of the man shimmers and waves away (like they do in the movies). Then, she passes away as she watches "the night sky fading red...". [Chorus] -"But as you sleep, and no one is listening -I will lift you off your feet, I'll keep you from sinking -Don't you wake up yet, cause soon I'll be leaving you, -Soon I'll be leaving you -But you won't be leaving me..." When he sat in the hospital room, he tried to comfort her. He told her not to wake up, because when she passes away she wouldn't be in pain any longer. As his loved one passes away, he tells her that even though he's leaving her (because she dies), he says "you won't be leaving me..." -"In the car, the radio leaves me searching for your star -A constellation of frustration driving hard -Singing my thoughts back to me, and Watching -heartache on TV" It's a clear night and as he drives home from the hospital, not even the radio can keep his mind off her. He then looks up at the sky through the windshield. In the space of it all, he feels small as he realizes he is all alone now. Yah, if I directed this song's music video I would use this as a theme. But, that's how this song makes sense to me. | |

| To me it seems like he's either just died or about to die and he's telling her that he'll be watching for her after he dies. "singing to only you" shows that she will be the only one able to hear him because he will be in her memories. Also, "keep you from sinking" show's that when she might be feeling down or something, the memories of him will keep her head up (happy.) Lastly, "Soon I'll be leaving you, but you won't be leaving me" is him saying that even though he's gone, he'll think of her or watch out for her when he's gone. That's just my opinion. | |

| Well, I'm pretty sure this song is about leaving his girlfriend, Kelly, to go record "North" for a pretty long time. He's stuck in Seattle, Washington while she's (I assume) in Dana Point, California. In this song, which is kind of a lullaby to her, he wants her to know that he's always thinking of her and- even though he can't physically be there for her- he's there for her in spirit and he loves her. | |

| Well I really like how everyone interpreted the song... I mean they basically all make sense... and I just got this really craaazy random idea... and I'm not even sure if it makes sense to me... haha but anyway, here it is... I can almost picture like an awful car accident... there is a couple involved and the guy had been singing to the girl earlier in the evening (the first verse) and letting her reallllly know how much he cares about her and how he is always going to be there for him... "Don't forget I'll hold your head..." for example... then, as the 2 are just sort of sitting there, the girl tells the guy something awful, like she wants to break up or she cheated on him or she has to move... something like that... so hes ripshit and all, or course, so he leaves in a hurry and is driving down the road late at night just thinking of everything.... their relationship... good times... what she did... everything... and he has all these mixed emotions... hes furious, frustrated... sad... just completely a wreck... "In the car, the radio leaves me searching for your star A constellation of frustration driving hard Singing my thoughts back to me..." so all the while, he is thinking of all this... and he is thinking how much he loves her but how much she has possibly hurt him (maybe??) ... and so he's all worked up and ends up either getting hit by another car, or he like drives off a bridge by accident because he cannot think straight at all... so anyway as everything is happening (the accident)... everything sort of kicks into slow motion and his girl comes to mind... and he realizes that he is probably going to die or something like that.... and yet for some reason nothings really registering with him... its all happening so fast, but so slow at the same time... and like I said already, he thinks of his girl... and how he wants to always be there for her and all.... "But as you sleep, and no one is listening I will lift you off your feet, I'll keep you from sinking Don't you wake up yet, cause soon I'll be leaving you Soon I'll be leaving you, but you won't be leaving me..." so that is what he is thinking sort of... he is expressing to the girl (in his mind, of course) that he will be leaving her (he is going to die or something)... but she won't be leaving him because he will be able to sort of protect her in a way and keep her on her feet, stable... yeah so like I said in the beginning, I'm not sure if this even makes sense to me... just a random thought I got just now while listening to the song... soo.... there it is... btw, this song rocks | |

| soon i'll be leaving you, but you won't be leaving me... well the song could obviously mean many things, but i think it's more or less he likes this girl, doesn't really matter if she likes him back or not, the bottom line is he is physically leaving her (leaving town, going on tour, whatever) but she will always be in his heart and on his mind. | |

| yea i always listen to this song right before i go to sleep. it doesnt seem like it should be first on the album it should be last... because its a lullaby. also, are you all sure its about a girl? i mean, it probably is, but it could also be a lullaby to a child or something. | |

| but is the love returned? i wonder...and i can see it both ways. he speaks about what he'll do and feel and the only thing he says about her is "but you won't be leaving me". that doesn't even really mean she likes him...it could just means he likes her. so i think it's unclear whether it's unrequited love or not...what do you think? | |

| This song doesn't remind me of love. My brother-in-law, Eddie, is over in Iraq at the moment, and he feels like he's across the universe from me. This song reminds me of him, because truthfully, when he does sleep, no one is really listening to him. So, it does kind of remind me of him. | |

| my boyfriend sang this to me one time when we were lying in bed and it came on his playlist. and the "soon i'll be leaving you" part made me think a bit. even though the rest of the song was really sweet. But now i'm definately leaning towards the physically leaving meaning of that line. It's a really sweet song...GUYS SING IT TO THE ONE YOU LOVE! | |

| This song makes me sleepy..in a good way of course. I read the reviews for this song and somebody said the chorus makes you think of a eagle soaring through the sky past mountains and then into a valley with a river below. It sounds stupid, but he's kinda right. | |

| I think that it is so interesting to see all the different perspectives that people have about this song. But I could see it from all the views that were mentioned. I came to this site to see what this song meant, and I left it with about six different options. I like Fanofuna's but what I don't get would be "I'm leaving you, but you won't be leaving me...", if she were to be on her deathbed, then it would be the reverse order, but I think that it is awesome that you have such a clear picture about this. I also like fallinraindrops perspective as well. This is an awesome song. | |
