I like how song lyrics can mean different things to different individuals . . . I suppose no one really knows exactly what was originally intended, yet we can all connect to it in our own ways. I'm inclined to agree with the second theory posted, yet the first can work too. Though actually, it reads a lot like my life now . . . sad, really, but a great song

I remember being in like 3rd grade and they older kids at my school sang this song at one of the school concerts we had. It was because the principle said it was about drug addiction and how bad it was. Not really sure that's what its about, but its a great song. good lyrics no doubt.

THIS IS THE MOST BEAUTIFUL SONG EVER. OHOHOH.... WELL, WHEN I WAS YOUNG I SAW THE MUSIC VIDEO AND I CRIED. I THINK THE MUSIC VIDEO DESCRIBES WHAT'S IN THE LYRICS. IT SHOWS KIDS BEING KIDNAPPED, AND BABIES BEING STOLEN FROM THEIR MOMS, AND THROUGHOUT THE SONG THEY ALWAYS SHOW "MISSING REPORTS" WITH PICTURES OF CHILDREN. AND THEN AT THE END THEY SHOW KIDS BEING FOUND, DEAD, OR RAPED..... AND IT'S SO SAD IT MAKES U CRY. LOOK AT THE VIDEO IT'S REALLY BEAUTIFUL. SOULASYLUM MIGHT NOT BE A GREAT BAND, BUT THEY SURELY PRODUCED THE MOST SAD SONG EVER WITH RUNAWAY TRAIN..... IT'S MY SONG......

I remember that video, too, and i agree with all of you. When i've heard the line "runaway train, burnin' in my veins", i tought it must be about drug addiction, and that the one the song is about escapes into using drugs from his depression. So the one way track could mean the drugs, wich you can't just stop using. It leads to death.

it's about this person who couldn't deal with his problems... the only person who is there for him turns him away... [cuz you kno.. "you were there like a blow torch burning" but like... later... he asks "can you help me remember how to smile" and stuff...] it is inferred that he didnt receive the help he'd planned to get.. and so he's running away from all his problems by... oo i dunno.. doing drugs? [^^b]
