Cornell is definately an enviornmentallist. You can tell by the activisim He is trying to create with Audioslave. In soundgarden lyrics he constantly uses the environment as a tool. Real easy to tie this in with Romanticism.

I think the song is about people who are full of themselves. They think everyone around them is a burden. They hurt everyone and everything that they love. Then the feel guilty and try to drown the pain with drugs or alcohol, making things worse. In the end, when everyone can see what they really are, they plead for simpathy and claim it was all just a mistake.

I think this is my favorite song lyricly by Chris. I love the rhymes and the entire topic of the song. I also love the way he screams "Gonna kill your mother" so that someone who listens to it for the first time might think it is about something darker than it is.

yea i don't know what this song is about but the suggestion that is about an abusive relationship is probably the most accurate... i guess no one will really know for sure...except Mr. Cornell

The song's obviously set in the desert so they could make a sweet music video with them wandering around in the desert looking really bad ass I agree with the various levels thing, and you could take him "shooting" his love to be a metaphor for any kind of abuse, physically or verbally or whatever, but whatever his exact actions were, he's regretting it

It seems to me to be the slow breaking down of someone losing someone close to them. I know I've been there. Whether or not he shot her in the head or not is irrelevant. In a roundabout and kind of creepy kind of way, he seems envigorated about it.

Yeah you guys got it. Chris's younger days where he tried blatantly telling people about things that were obvious to him and he cared about greatly, such as environmentalism. It seems mostly on albums released after Louder than Love are less politically motivated, it appears the record labels censored him up or theres a slight possibility he decided his message wasn't getting across. 'Hands all over the words I utter Change them into what you want to Like balls of clay Put your hands away Yeah, put your hands away' Looks like telling them to put their hands away only makes em fight back.

Everyone seems to have gotten this song figured out, but no ones mentioned 'baby brother' and if they have i apologise. Anyway i think 'Baby Brother' is the coming generations, and having his 'arms around baby brother' is just Chris saying he's trying to protect coming generations from what people are doing to the environment.

Lost his girl because of his alcoholism? Are you on crack? I'm sure alcoholism would be part of a theme of the song, but OBVIOUSLY it's about a very abusive relationship that doesn't necessarily stem from alcoholism. "Crack a smile, cut your mouth, and drown in alcohol" - Many people (Though I don't condone it), when depressed, feel the best thing is to go drink. It's not necessarily alcoholism, it's pretty commonplace.
