Soundgarden - Superunknown
Superunknown
Dropped D, dropped G tuning. Play this tab in full order, just follow it
through. Most of this was transcribed by ear but a few notes were fixed up by
looking at the Guitar magazine version. I hope it is easy to follow. Once you
get it down pat you will appreciate how much fun it is to play. Now and then
when jamming I substitute the fill in here and there to spice it up a little.
Don't overdo it though!

| The Superunknown id Life...There are things we don't know--may never know--and we have to accept that fact. Also, some things in life anren't always black and white, either/or: "If this isn't what you see It doesn't make you blind If this doesn't make you feel It doesn't mean you've died" | |

| ! It's definitely like someone said about looking at the world in a different way. The whole world is the Superunknown, few know for a fact where they came from, or where they're going after they leave earth, and thus, it's all gray area for us to fill in with our pretty little imaginations. "First it steals your mind and then it steals your soul" This is reaching a bit but I think that it means as a newborn you have unlimited potential. It's only once you enter society that you feel pinned down- it steals your mind, as to how much you can accomplish, and your soul- it tells you how to feel. The most important lines- "Get yourself afraid Get yourself alone Get yourself contained Get yourself control" Get yourself alone as in seperate from the pack, as it's the only way you're really ever going to change things. Be afraid because fear inspires escape, contained and control as in knowing just who you are and what you want to do- Ultimately accepting that you're just a feeble little being battling the elements tooth and nail...alive in the superunknown and all. Inspiring song, and I don't just mean that on a musical level. | |

| I think xvelvetxkissesx is on the right path, although not sure if I agree with the whole control part at the end. As for why it's called Superunknown I would guess its talking about the universe and life in general. It's all unknown and alot of it does not make anysense and as xvelvetxkissesx said there are many sides/perspectives to everything. First it steals your mind - nothing makes sense Then it steals your soul - then you die | |

| NO, NO, NO! This song is about DRUGS! Trust me! It's definitely about drugs, %100! Superunknown as I've said before as an album, was about drugs, suicide and depression. This is about drugs for sure. "If this isn't what you see, it dosen't make you blind" as in "Yea, you don't feel like taking drugs? That's fine, but you'll never see the crazy shit I'm seeing right now let me tell you!". If you don't agree with me, you're wrong. | |

| The superunknown, as someone said, might be life, or might be some kind of personal world in which you can lock yourself in with drugs... but I think this song is about having your own opinion and living life your own way, without subscribing to any ideals or philosophies. | |

| Superunknown is about perspective and expectation.... The song is basically telling us to take care of our own view points... Because what seems right to you may seem utterly offensive to someone else.. do not automatically shut something out just because it doesn't make sense.. And not to expect things to come to us, it's telling us that we need to earn all things... basically it's telling us to keep our minds open to eveything,..... And when we close our minds off, the Superunknown (the world) steals our minds and thus our souls...and we become enveloped in the occurances of the world instead of ourselves.... Basically, by closing our minds to or ignoring the world, we become enveloped in it... Alive in the Superunknown... as opposed to part of it... | |

| Superunknown is obviously about experimenting with drugs. Its about drugs creating a false reality where you dont know whats real and whats fake and being lost in that world("alive in the superunknown"). And as for the lyrics "first it steals your mind then it steals your soul" is a reference to addiction where you can no longer control your life. It also sounds like someone whose on a bad trip. | |

| im not one of those crazy people that seem to think every song is about drugs (or Kurt Cobain, for that matter :P) but i honestly thought this one was. look at the first paragraph: "If this isn't what you see It doesn't make you blind If this doesn't make you feel It doesn't mean you've died Where the river's high Where the river's high" ...that could easily be referring to someone experiencing a high from drugs. and the chorus: "Alive in the superunknown First it steals your mind And then it steals your soul" ...that could be interpreted as how drug addiction leads to a person loosing their mind and their soul - and the superunknown is the state of high/euphoria experienced when taking drugs. | |
