In other words, when you've been overcome by grief, look at the big picture and you'll feel better. Understand things like this happen and you get through. That's what I think the theme of the song is.

Sounds pretty angst-ridden to me, more like he doesn't know what he wants or what will happen to him next, and the weight that it is putting on his shoulders makes him miserable. Great song, great band. Sponge is possibly the most underrated of all '90s alt-rock bands. The plot of the movie Empire Records sounds sort of like Clerks. I'll have to check it out.

fucken hell empire records is the funniest shit aye... whoever said it sucked... no it didnt. be quiet the movie doesnt have much of a plot... its just cute and funny with kickass songs in it... (eg. dire straits - romeo & juliet, sponge - plowed, dishwalla - counting blue cars, daniel johnston - rock n' roll ega, queen sarah saturday - seems... etc) the movies about a bunch of teens/early 20's kids who work at a record shop. its got little side plots but yeh the movie is just funny as hell anyways back to the song i first heard it from the one and only empire records... and really really liked it... as with numerous other songs i first heard from the movie no idea what these lyrics are about... i just love the sound

Oh man. This song brings back so many memories of the early to mid 90's. Good stuff.
