Stabbing Westward: "The Thing I Hate"
From the album Darkest Days, Copyright 1998 Stabbing Westward
(This song also appears as the theme from the Playstation game Duke Nukem:

Time to Kill, as well as on the CD Duke Nukem: Music to Score By)
Tabbed by "Emptyeye" (emptyeye@juno.com)

As with the last tab I did ("On Your Way Down"), don't expect perfection.
I do believe I'm reasonably close, but perfection is a bit much to ask for.

As with "On Your Way Down", this song is in Drop-D tuning for 4-string basses.
Also like in OYWD, the song will be divided up into 16th notes. However, in
this song you'll have to count VERY fast in order to hear it. The only real
reason I did it is because of a couple of dotted 8th note rhythms during the
verses.

This tab tells you where the notes go, but not how long to hold them. For the
full value is typical, but again, if you're not sure listen to the CD.

Riff #1:
G ----------------|----------------|
D ----------------|----------------|
A ----------------|----------------|
D 2---3---5--3--0-|2---3---5--3--0-|

Riff #2:
G ----------------|----------------|
D ----------------|----------------|
A --------0-------|--------0-------|
D 4---5------5--2-|4---5------5--2-|

Riff #3:
G ----------------|----------------|
D ----------------|----------0-----|
A 3-3-3-3-3-3-3-3-|0-0-0-0-0-------|
D ----------------|---------(0)----|

Riff #4 (It's not really the bass riff but it's kinda interesting to play):
G ----------------|----------------|
D ----------------|----------------|
A ----------------|----------------|
D 2--22-2-2-3-2-0-|2--22-2-2-3-2-0-|

Notes: Most of the bass lines are done through a synth...keep this in mind.
Also on Riff #3 it's really your choice as to which octave you want to go to
on the last D.
In spite of that, here's the order of the riffs in the song, or at least how
I play them:
(4 measure rest at beginning of the song)
Riff #1 3X
Riff #2 1X
Riff #1 3X
Riff #2 1X
Riff #1 9X
Riff #3 1X

Riff #1 3X
Riff #2 1X
Riff #1 9X

Riff #1 1X
Riff #3 1X
(4 measure rest)
Riff #4 2X (Optional; Otherwise another 4 measure rest)
Riff #1 4X
(2 measure rest)
Riff #1 1X
Riff #3 1X
Riff #1 1X
Riff #3 1X
Riff #1 7X
Riff #2 1X
Hehe. It looks tough but it's really not. You'll figure it out if you just
listen to the song. Bye!

The full title of the song is 'The Thing I Hate (P.O.M.F.)', which stands for Pissed-Off Motherfucker.

Listening to this song on an I-pod and having it immediately followed by David Bowir "Let's Dance" is really absurd. as much as this song is about a woman.. i think the chorus is so appropriate in so many other settings when you just can't stand someone and feel like walking away and being the better person just won't be as fulfilling as sinking to their level.

Hey Duke introduced me to Stabbing Westward too. It's kind of ironic that this song was used in that game though. Somebody has decided to break the cycle. Hate breeds hate breeds hate. Same idea as Tool's Prison Sex but with a different outcome.

A snap of rage numbs the mind. And strengthens the body... the want to feel someone's blood gushing through your fingers... we've all likely felt this. Some can stop- and think about what their doing. Better themselves beyond the person they want so to see harmed in horrifying ways. Sometimes, the person doesn't get it- hell... alot of times the other person doesn get it. You better yourself again and again. They proceed to make them your worst enemy. And, ultimately what you loathe.. in the end, what it breaks down to.. is will you sink to their level, simply for the feeling of vengence, and seeing them in pain? After all... if they've hung in this long to make your life a living hell. Would it just start a war...? It isn't worth your time.

This was me and my ex-boyfriend of 9 month's song. His plan was to surprise me when I woke up by bringing me my valentines day present and having the song play as I woke up. I woke up as he walked into the room so that night when we got back from dinner we layed in bed together and he sang it to me.... ::sigh:: Love can be such a bitch.

I think Angelic Death hit it right on the nose. Damn, I couldn't describe it better. I have to hand it to you, not too many people earn my agreement when it comes to a good description of any song. You seem cool.

eh...that was rad. Anyway, great song. its quite obvious what it means. Someone made him suffer and he wants her to suffer and feel pain. And then he says that he won't became the thing he hates...her. great fucken song.
