| Considering the song is called hunger strike, I feel that the message of the song was both intended to be and also how I interpret the song personally: I have no problem taking from the rich and giving to the poor (or myself) but I would rather go hungry than hurt those who are already hurting. So I'm gonna go on hunger strike. Also, it may have to do with some other the drug using band members quitting drugs "going hungry" for Andrew Wood. | |

| This song is about 3rd world countries having a litter of kids and only enough food for a small family. | |

| I always thought that the "farming babies" line had to do with the birth of babies for the master to raise as slaves. Not so much "3rd world countries having a litter of kids and only enough food for a small family." Either meaning is close enough, but callyouout's interpretation is more disparaging and ignores WHY they don't have enough to feed their families - because the dominant classes of the world hoard all the resources for themselves. There's a good Time cover story titled "How to End Poverty" on this topic, and of course numerous books written on it. It's an interesting but controversial topic, and clearly nobody has the answers to world inequality. | |

| Temple of The Dog...Not sure with this combination of Eddie Vedder and Chris Cornell you could find any better musicians, (at least during that time). But anyway, this is indeed one of my favorite songs all time. And good God, can Chris Cornell hit some high notes or what!? | |

| Its a bit more obvious in meaning than some of the songs vedder had sung with pearl jam. This song is definitely one of the greatest songs of the grunge folllowing [as well as being one of the songs to giive birth to the "movement"]. I dont believe its too often that u find a grunge song that is depressing in a way but also reaches out to a noble cause[ this and "polly" bu nirvana would be exceptions]. I just wish his words would still be heard in hearts not ears for those of a greddy natures:" But I can't feed on the powerless When my cup's already overfilled" | |
