Notes: There is some background noise (maybe a mixer
doing some fill?), so you'll have to get a keyboard
to make it sound good live, but this is how it goes.

I'm not sure if this song is about a coma or a mental institution. To me i always put this song as something happened, in which she was in an accident and in the hospital, and now she's left and gone and he's missing her, maybe the accident was his fault and he's despretly trying to apologize but can't. I dunno im just trying to generate something new.

i love this song because the numbness of the background really conveys the feeling of numbness you get when something that was there isnt anymore but you're still thinking about it. something that i struggle with is hanging onto things that have happend. not just relationships but trips i've taken, getting older, people i don't see anymore. its hard when that depression sinks in and you can't connect and go back to the way things were. nothing can ever be the same with certain things.

i think its about his g/f who goes crazy. and she is in a mental insitution. I think its a play off of God of Wine.. okay i write poetry and music and lots of my poems play of off the same scenario. I seriously think it has to do with that or some sort of addiction to drugs.

What's the line "I lift your head as they change the hospital sheets" all about if it's metaphorical and not to do with a coma or mental institution? I think the rest of the song is pretty vague but that kinda pins it down...

If you listen carefully to the lyrics from the whole album, there seems to be a unifying theme of co-dependancy. I think his girlfriend was somehow damaged, depressed, and addict, something, and he gave up trying to save her, but it didn't make him stop caring.

this song is so touching.. the first time I heard it, I didn't take much to the melody.. but it grew on me, and is now one of my favourite songs - I wish I knew the deeper meaning of the lyrics.. what I've come to is that it's about a guy, whose girl friend must've gotten seriously hurt and put in the hospital, seemingly unable to contact with him.. either a coma or death. So he was so dependant on this girl in the past, that he doesn't know what to do with himself anymore, he can't work without her. write to me with your views or comments at akerman@oncable.dk - I would love to discuss this song!

K guys, read the lyrics again, keeping this thought in mind: If you loved someone with all your soul and they died, years later even if you are in a relationship, you're still gonna think about and love that person. Thats what the song is about. And the line "I felt you long after we were through" following all the hospital talk is a much nicer metaphorical and lyrical way of saying "she died" 8^(

"Not about death, the song's about not being relevant in someone else's eyes anymore. Which is a form of death, isn't it?" Stephen Jenkins -- This song isn't necessarily about someone being in a hospital or coma, but just about transforming from being at the center of someone's life to fading into their background--they still carry you around with them, because of your past relationship and memories, but you just revert from being the focus to being in the background.

this is my favorite 3eb song. i remember listening to this album with my mother and then for some reason, a couple of years later i got a flashback of their jumper video and wanted to listen to 3eb. when i finally remembered the name of the band, i downloaded this song and listened to it for five months straight. that is how much i love this song.

I was listening to the red album while driving today, and this song came on, and I burst into tears. I've had this album forever, but I don't think I'd ever really listened to these words and how incredibly sad & hopeless they sound. It's definitely about his girlfriend being in a coma, but I think this song can be applied a relationship gone bad, too. When you love someone so much, but they just totally pull away, and you're left there hanging, carrying them in the background, and the plans you make still include them. I know all-too well how this feels. :(

Wow I love this song! is just so... beautiful. Is about a guy who broke-up with her girlfriend and he misses her a lot. So everywhere he goes, or everything he does reminds him of her. "I'm hanging on your words like I always used to do" is holding onto somebodys ways... he still does what they (him & his girlfriend) did together. "The words they use so lightly I only feel for you" is one of the best lines... he wants her to know that words came out so easily when it talked about his feelings towards her. I love Stephans style! Great song! great Cd! Great band!
