I'd never turn my back on any of my brothers or sisters, because between us all, it's an unspoken promise to our mother that we wouldn't. This is what this song reminds me off. That promise.

God, I adore this song. It's beautiful... and basically reminds me of growing up. You change, but there are times that you've had with certain people that you'll never forget

I think an important thing to notice in the lyrics is that they say "I never let you go" instead of "I'll never let you go" There's a big difference and some people mess up the lyrics.

See in the end, it doesn't matter if it's "I'll" or "I" because when a song is written, it becomes whatever the person who listens to it thinks it is. A song is poetry after all, and the instant it goes to someone else, it's no longer yours. Therefore, it's whatver you want it to say.

I think the "like a sunburn" line means he loves being with her but afterwards is in pain. think about it, sitting in the sun feels so good, but later that day when the burn sets in it sucks.
