I think this song is about love. He is explaining what love is and what it does to you by comparing it to other things. In the first verse he says that the drug is not love, but it does have the same characteristics that love does. It "sets up shop behind your ribcage," which is where you heart is. And in the last stanza when he says "lift the veil, it's not medicine and my heart fails, time and time again," I think he's saying that he's incapable of love. His heart fails to love. I love the drum line in the beginning of this song and how it is sung. It is no less than a beautiful work of art.

i dont got a lot of time so imma make it short, sorry if it doesnt make sense, or if its off. i agree with sinamor and invitalis, but i also think its about suicide where he says, "burning right beneath the wrist begging for a razor's kiss to free it from your skin." so its dealing with common fallacies of America. "to be at peace would be a sin and surely un-american." so its like, these things are so common in America to not be effected by them, or take part in them, would make u un-american. thats what i think. peace.

well since thrice likes to criticize society and government, its pretty clear to me that the song is about the government and the system as a whole. its like you are just a person seeking for help. what they do is give you way more than you need. like pulling a sliver from your skin with an axe is absolutely unnecessary and it is an ignorant action. same with the system now. so many things are unnecessary and stupid. it only ends up hurting you-building up blood clots and black holes. it touches an issue of war how to be at peace would be unamerican. theyre saying how war was also unnecessary. and they talk about how everything just makes you want to injure yourself because you dont fully understand whats going on and you give in to the system, trusting them completely, like a parent that betrayed you

Another one of the better songs off the artist in the ambulance. The best i can really make out of this song is basically summerized in the line - "lift the veil, it's not medicine" medicine being a false sense of purpose or reason being given to you as truth or comfort (from whomever you want/feel, Gov't, religions, people etc..) and the overall obsurdity of this tactic that for some reason has been so successful. I dunno maybe i'm way off....

Hey guys, great posts. let me help you out. At the warped tour i asked dustin about this song. he said it's about "THE LIMITS OF HUMAN KNOWLEDGE." Modern hospital ethics does not respect the limits of human knowledge. It is becoming more and more prideful. For example, instead of just letting a person die, we put them through incredibly painful and drawn-out treatment plans. we think that being at peace about a patient's death would be sinful and not respecting human life enough. the first thing doctors should think about is "FIRST, DO NO HARM." but paradoxically, we simultaneously disrespect human life by thinking that technology will save us. And when technology can't save us, we euthanize ourselves so that we won't have to live with pain. Medicine is taking the role of God, trying to prolong people's lives beyond the natural limits, and when it can't, using technology to kill them, and us. Can we kill each other quickly? so we won't feel it?
