| I'm just wondering if anyone might have made a connection between the last lines and the title? Science could be refering to weapons (Atomic) that will end us all. Just thought that might be a subliminal peace on earth message...just maybe. | |

| I'm listening to this song live, and they replaced shotguns with "Jesus". Or maybe some one changed it since I'm watching on youtube, but it sounded like it was them. They're doing an MTV performance. | |

| Hey guys, good posts. the knife in the back thing is a reference to Caesar. Julius C. laughed at honor and payed the price for it. So will we, if our society gives up objective morality, and starts actually believing in utillitarianism, which says that men create their own morality for their own use. i.e., we create a compass for the next society to follow. "look in my eyes, you won't find your way back": this refers to the nature of a person without any objective groundwork or foundation. you get lost in them, they are not coherent themselves, there is no unifying aspect of their nature, they are empty. Lewis calls them "MEN WITHOUT CHESTS". he says the head rules the belly through the chest, and when you take away the chest (objective morality) the head starts to get controlled by the belly. things get bad. natural law is written on our hearts. god made mother nature, and he made her with natural laws written on the hearts of human beings. such is the nature of objective morality, that appears in all the religions and moral systems of the world. But man rejects tradition and tries his own thing. For instance, we reject traditional views of sex and invent condoms and all sorts of birth control, and start to teach the next generation in public schools that the traditional view of sex is not objective, and we tell them what we feel is a better view of sex, that you can have it as a teenager as long as you "never work without your gloves." thus, science creates a way for one society to govern the behavior of the next, using technology (birth control and abortion, genetic programming, etc.) to achieve this end. | |

| DaVinci is right. C.S. Lewis was a brilliant author and Dustin knows it. He has at least three songs with lyrics taken directly taken from Lewis. | |

| "Science could be refering to weapons (Atomic) that will end us all. " It is not limited to weapons. He is referring to the pursuit of science without the regard of basic moral values; pursuing science in the wrong way (abortion, stem cell research, weapons as you said etc.) | |

| I love Thrice's lyrics. They are so potent and powerful, and this song is one of the best. Love the C.S. Lewis references too -- as DaVinci said, this song is based on one of Lewis' books. The song name "(That) Hideous Strength" is from the title of another one of his books. we laugh at honor and are shocked to find knives in our backs Fantastic lyrics.. | |

| An awesome song, the lyrics have so much meaning behind them as is often the case in Thrices songs. The comments were also very interesting. | |
