	Regarding the title and lyric, Paper Tigers, Bruce Hoffman, in his brief essay, "Rethinking Terrorism and Counterterrorism Since 9/11", points out through his research into al Qaeda that Bin Laden uses he term "paper tiger" in reference to the U.S. quite frequently. Not sure if that is any reference that Dustin was trying to make, but I thought it was interesting.

	i've heard 'paper tigers' referring to internet companies, and companies like Enron who are "paper tigers." basically it was a huge power distrubuting company written on paper yet they were very strong (tigers) and they fell apart. just a thought..

	This song pretty much single handedly made me anti-war. It's about how gov'ts (specifical America) rush into war, killing 100s of 1000s of people and don't think twice about. "They light the world on fire, just to watch it burn" is a reference to these wars. The Iraqi war is a great example - iraq had nothing to do with 9-11, had no weapons of mass destruction and we just went in there with nothing to gain because Bush wanted Saddam overthrown (see Michael Moore's Fahrenheit 911 and the new book "Imperial Hubris" coming out 8/1/04). "We paid the price, we paid for their crimes with our blood and our lives" - a line that almost brings me to tears whenever I hear it and think about it's reality - is a reference to us, the citizens of America who die in wars and experience their family and friends die because of the crimes of unjustified wars.

	I believe the "their" in the second line refers to the "porcelain skylines, shatterproof spires" belonging to the paper tigers, not to the first "they" in the line. That fits a lot better with the 9/11 hypothesis, and is pretty eerie... Refer to the definition of "paper tiger." Also, it's a nice comparison between the supposedly shatterproof spires, really fragile porcelain, and the intimidating but powerless paper tigers. I love Dustin's songwriting.

	To me, this is Thrice's most intense song. I love it! I'm not down with comparing every song lyric I hear to 9/11...I think it's more general than that.

	I have to give credit to one of my buddies for this but I agree with him that this song is probably about September 11th. (Listen for the sound as it all comes crashing down) Also about how Americans always taking jabs at other countries and how someday the weaker country will retaliate (similar to 911).We are the ones who end up "paying the price"
