| Alright, alright, let's clear this up. First of all, the song is simply about someone's parent or parents having different ideals than them. It's not about God's ideals, for God doesn't judge people and if you were a Christian, you'd know that. Also, Dustin (the only Christian in the band) didn't even write it by himself. So the song has nothing to do with Christianity itself. | |

| Does anyone know what he yells before the words "You set the bar too high?" He says something, but it isn't in the lyrics. | |

| Well this is...to me...him saying that his mom has too high expectations for him, and he's saying that he has other dreams, different than hers, and he wants her to repect that. "judged for how I look, not for the good that I have done" is a great line, I think a lot of people can relate to that. Also the last part there, "shaped by god, and my volition, and the seeds that you have sown, but I ask you once again, when does my life become my own?" I can also relate to, too...it's like saying he has follow his mom's religion, and he says the last line with such a great anger that it seems like it's not at all the way he believes. | |

| Yeah, I agree. Thrice aren't a Christian band. No.... they're not! I think they're an awesome band with a great sound and a POSITIVE message. If you don't want to listen to positive music, that's fine. If you don't want to listen to Christian music, that's fine, too. I don't think this song or any of Thrice's songs are really considered Christian; they're just based on faith and the band's own experience. Really. The lyrics can really relate to anyone, whether you're Christian or not. Generally, everyone goes through problems. Try to be positive in life. Damnit. | |

| Though different from the christian undertheme of this song, it reminds me of some problems i have at home with my parents wanting me to be something im not. Hence "you set the bar too high" and "my focus is not yours" "when does my life become my own." etc. etc. I dunno, its just MY meaning, everyone's is differn't. Awsome band btw... | |
