| "Beating me with your words" This sounds more like insults than physical violence. It could be about an argument that was unfair and left the songwriter helpless, so revenge is in order. "Forever in night life/ Losing in hindsight/ ownership changes hands" The more he looks back on it, the less clear it gets, so blame is easily switching back and forth. It seems his soul has been tortured by some unrestrained, immoral accusations, orders or questions imposed on him at a time when it was hard for him to defend himself. Now he vows to psychologically undermine his opponent so that they get equal treatment. "Read me aloud"- He's being judged by someone with a biased perception of him, it seems, someone powerful enough to leave him in ruins, but he knows he can fight back using his own words to do the same. | |
