| i think you guys are failing to see the big picture and sadly enough i mean taking the song for what it really is... Bono declared that this song is the 2nd part to discotheque which according to him is about the drug Ecstasy. We all know Ecstasy give people a euphoric sense of love of everyone around them hence "do you feel loved?" whether its true or drug induced. also, the drug is assosciated with clubbing and disco "heavy rhytthm taking over" and "pushing and shoving" are all reminders that this scenario takes place in a night club of some sort. all that symbolic ranting in the song about "turn it into your own prayer" just relates to how collectivelly people behave when in such an evirnonment. its not a personal song, its probably the most generic song the band have ever written. just think of how people at a rave party almost behave like a congregation at a church | |

| I love this song, the sound of it is just awesome.. it was such a stretch for U2 to make something like this. But anyway, this song is either about two people caught up in a very lustful relationship, or two people who are in a volitale, lustful relationship.. Either way, sex is an obvious element in the story. | |

| certainly an interesting theory, and well backed-up, eire, but I think it overlooks a few things. "Stick together, a man and woman" is too firm a bond for a fan-rockstar relationship, I think. Then there's the final line, "There's heat in the sun to see us through the rain." What metaphorical rain could there be in a relationship of a fan-rockstar? | |

| i think this song is still about the relationaship between two lovers. in the first verse and chorus he kind mocks the woman becausehe feels she is mistaking love as acquiring things from the man. his tone is apathetic and numb, saying that his possessions are useless. he is saying that love is not about giving or receiving. he's asking, what good does smelling his scent do to the woman? nothing, in terms of love. that's my 2 cent. i love this song for both its lyric and music. | |

| I completely agree with eirenightshade, she actually nailed it. Bono is singing to a fan who worships him, he says that she can take his hands that she appreciate so much, but they actually never done anything for her, and it is true that Bono never worked a day in something that it's not music. The boots, the shirt, etc. represent those objects that the fans worship so much just because they belonged to a rock star. Then, he ask himself, or maybe he asks the fans: do you feel loved? Is this somehat sick relationship really love? The metaphor "it looks like the sun, but it feels like the rain", well... when you see Bono everyone would like to be in his place, you see a rock star, you see someone famous and rich, but those things that people would envy him, he feel tired and sick of them, and they have their prize, they feel... like the rain. "There's heat in the sun, to see us through the rain" hmmm... not sure about this, but maybe that beneath that rock star, if "take a look inside" you can see the real thing about being a rock star, but I'm not so sure. There's a chance that maybe even Bono doesn't know what it means but the line sounds great, LOL. All in all, it's a song about fame but mixed with a sex song, or maybe about sex with a fan... | |

| This is a very sexy song but at the same time, I feel that it has very little if anything to do with sex as the lyric might suggest. I think that this song isn't about a man and a woman at all but about U2's relationship with their fans. I've always had a suspicion "Do You Feel Loved" was sort of written to the die hard fans who idolize U2. Every line in this song deals with the idea of someone having a love affair with the lyricist in their imagination. I think the message he's trying to convey in this song is that he feels somewhat violated by the people who worship him and who always want of piece of him. He's sort of taking a look into the minds of his die hard fans and seeing how obsessed with him some people really are. "Take this tangle of a conversation and turn it into your own prayer" meaning that he's realizing what it means to some people just that he's spoken to them. In this song he's kind of mocking the idea of how some fans actually are to a point where they worship him. In their minds, he's objectified and made to be a puppet where the specific fan is pulling the strings. I think this song is a light hearted way to laugh off how obsessed people have become with him. He's trying to say he enjoys that people like him but he doesn't want to be worshipped. | |
