I really don't know what this song about, but I don't know why 'Pop' is so trashed. I think 'Pop,' despite the difference in sound, is amazing and one of U2's best albums. I personally don't like 'Boy' and 'October' as much as I like the current ones- including Pop. I don't think U2 found themselves until the Joshua Tree. I like all the current albums after the Joshua Tree. They're all different, but alike. The lyrics are amazing, often haunting. I love this group so much..

Paraphrased poetry The piano, with a little tune, forgives the words which are not said. Are we not still in the age of silent films? It’s still the same music. Same silence. With excuses … So, here’s the enchanter! Where are the seven swords? Nothing—but that childish heart within me trembling … She’s a letter gone astray. Did she carry a wrong address? A more than feline kiss? Fresh hopes for sale! Smiles going at a loss! Bargains! Bargains! In and out of reason. You’re not taken in by words. So generous … generous … You know everything. And always—I delude myself. Sand closes my mouth. Time shuts its trap door. Fly!—you tell yourself and then eat your wings up …

Have you seen the video? I think this song it's on the soundtrack of "City of angels". My favorite part is: "And the cartoon network turns into the news". The children represent the future to this world, so let them enjoy their childhood, don't confrunt them with the cruel reality. This is an amaizing song, full of hidden conntations. Love U2!!!

I've read in the book I have about U2 song meanings that this song is about a girl being beaten up by her boyfriend, but I don't see this. Well, I guess I kind of do. "Jesus' sister's eyes are a blister/the high street never looked so low." Anyway, this song is just amazing to me. I was on a U2 forum and someone posted lyrics to this song that aren't posted here. After "If God would send his angels, sure could use them here right now," this person posted the following lyrics: "Well if God will send his Angels, and I want my life. Where do we go, and I want to feel my soul. Where do we go, and I want to know love. Where do we go, and I want to feel." I really like it. When I listened to the song itself, Bono is mumbling too much to really pick up on if that's what he's saying.

I don't know this line. [It's the stuff the stuff of country songs] What is the meaning of this line? I guess...it indicates this song 'If god will send his angels'

astepcloser24, The lyrics your referring to are the bits what say (scat singing). Its because in th song Bono says them kina of quiet and fast a bit mumbled! Personally, i think this song is about hows the world is kinda messed up, everything seems to be backward: "it's the blind leading the blond... it's the cops collecting for the cons" And at times it's looking pretty damning. Some peoples views on it is how can love or hope or faith solve anything in the world(it can't light up your christmas tree can it). Theres no Faith or Hope that things will get better, and to some people God doesn't seem to be doing anything about it. But i think it's simply posing the question; If God DID send his angels, or if God DID send a sign, would everything be alright?

Best song on 'Pop'. It actually poses the question the album is asking: "where is the hope, and where is the faith, and the love?" Christmas, I think, is used as a metaphor because of its duality: the birth of Christ verses mass-consumerism. I love the line, "does love light up your Christmas tree?"
