I’ve searched the whole web for a right version of the U2-Desire Bass tab but I couldn’t
find a right one anywhere. So I thought: why not tab it myself! So here it is:

Tune down 1/2 step to: Eb Ab Db Gb
~ = let ring
/ = slide up

*Bass starts at 0:04

Note: you must play the part that says: ‘only the beginning’ once and the part that says
‘Main’ is the Main tab that Adam plays almost during the whole song. (Don’t forget the
slide from -5- to -10- each time you play the main!)

What an awsome song! I recommend this to anyone, whether you're a diehard fan of a casual listener. The song is about him... desiring, if you will, some girl. Kind of a simple theme but who says all songs have to be complex.

I know people will tell me to not say anything at all if I don't have anything good to say. But my "desire" to say something bad about this song outweights my desire to shut up. Songs where the title of the song is repeated many times in a loud voice-over annoy me after several listens, this song being a prime example. I'm also not a big fan of all the jangliness, and because of that I'm not a fan of many of U2's songs. U2 is OK, I guess, but this song got old and annoying a while ago. Still not sure what the lyrics are supposed to mean even after reading these posts. Blind ambition? OK. Go ahead and bash me :-)

This song is describing how desires for things can be incredibly strong, with a "burning" feeling. The line: She's the dollars, she's my protection Yeah, she's a promise in the year of election Oh sister, I can't let you go says that the desire is for a woman. The song also questions why people preach: I'm like a preacher stealing hearts at a travelling show For love or money, money, money... this makes me thing whether the preachers are doing it for the love of the followers, or to make a get-rich-quick. A very thought-provoking line... But this song is still great to listen to, fantastic!

I ain't gonna bash you, that's your opinion, and your free to express it. Its just when there are huge lists of posts arguing whether a song is good or bad, and no discussion of song meaning that I get irritated. It makes me think of prostitution too, but it seems the song has many meanings.

this song is about herion addiction. "needle and spoon" Bono has written man songs about heroin addiction such as running to stand still and bad, his close friend died of a heroin overdose.
