Re: U2's religious connentations in their songs--in the first interview I read in Trouser Press magazine, Bono and the lads freely admitted that they they all were born-again Christians who at least once a week got together whether on the road or at home in Ireland to hold their own prayer meetings and Bible readings (Wouldn't this have made U2 the very first Christian Alternative band before that scene became popular with Christian kids in the '90s and even got noticed in Secular circles by acts like Collective Soul, Sixpence None the Richer, Jars of Clay, and Audio Adrenaline? Hmm...). As exciting and energetic this song was live on a simulcast Brown University's radio station ran that first introduced me to U2, remembering growing up in the Baptist church, reading the Bible, and Sunday School cartoons made about Jesus and other heroes in the Bible will bring me to this conclusion--among other topics U2 sings about: the injustice of poverty and racism, the evils of war, a mother's love, even love that's either romantic or globally just for other people--it always comes back to what Jesus told his followers: follow me, let your light (read: love for God) shine like a beacon in the night, and as Jesus told the crowd during the Sermon on the Mount, "Go forth unto all parts of the world and tell the Good News to others." I believe "I Will Follow" was U2's calling card as both faithful followers in Christ and a new force in modern music coming out of Ireland. For just that, the Lord has blessed them with a long, fruitful career playing music, thus paying homage to the concept that if one pleased God with his faith in Him, God will rewarding you hundredfold.

i know that U2 is really religious, but i think its unfair to their genius to tie all their lyrics to god....why does everything have to be about religion....i think the mother/son theory is much better

I disagree again, its bout following God and being trapped by His awesomeness. First single U2 released, off Boy.
