by the way, i really didn't mean to offend anyone with how i first started out about responding to the christian comments and seem prejudiced, unfair, and stereotypical, so sorry if you were offended. I also believe in god and only meant to respond to the whole sin/repentance/this is definately not about suicide comments from above.

Its an uber song i love the screaming Its not about suicide, its being trapped away from the world, imo, otherwise why is the name about feeling receptive?

okay... this song is very deep. Its about someone who has been locked away from the world for a while... and obviously they are depressed. So the think about cutting themselves hence the "i feel like dripping it dry tonight" thats talking about blood... and i think the part about the door being closed and it being familiar means that they have been in this state of mind for a while... "It's time to open up the door" they are asking for help out of their situation but if it doesnt come soon something bad may happen. (just my opinion)

I just thought this was simply about a person in solentary confinment (or something like that) and just wants to give up and die and finally his sentence (whatever) is finally up and he;s free. idk maybe its just me oh well peace

I think it's about cutting and doing drugs....Because Spencer was a drug addict before he found Christ....the part "There's nothing left unused in here. There's nothing left to say."....could be a reference to drugs...and the song could be about feeling suicidal while going through withdrawls....Just my opinion though....

ok its not about suicide, i just think its about depression in general. when youre depressed you "just want to stay inside." Its about wanting to get over it, but not being able to. You want to get over it, and "open the door." it was a perfect "get over your ex" song for me.

In my opinion, this song is about being stuck in depression. About how you want to get out of it and over it, but you can't bring yourself to make the leap and "crack a window" and "just shake it off", even though you want to ("and I just want to see outside.")

I think the lines.. give it away that its not about suicide. Its definitely about dealing with sin, But Im confused about the line . I guess means that he will repent? hmm just a thought..

the-orange-i-choked has the right idea. this song has nothing to do with suicide. it sounds very morbid, but it actually has really good meaning behind it. the fact that they begin the song with "this door has been shut for days," and end with, "its time to open the door," tells you its not about suicide. this song is about someone who knows how great it is to walk with Christ, but fell into all the sin he was committing like a lot of Christians do. No matter how strong someone's faith in God is, theres always a possibilty of falling out of it, or growing away from Him.

okay so first of all to what zemagicmaster said... the song is i DONT feel very receptive today... receptive means open to receiving information or communication... so that means he doesnt wanna hear anyone tell him whats what. and yes i agree with a lot of the other people, hes depressed but wants to get out of the depression... but also at the same time he wants to cut himself "i feel like cutting it open tonight and falling on the floor" he wants to just shake it off and be happy... open the door... "the door has been shut for days" so at the end he says "its time to open up the door" hence the getting out of the depression.. oh yeah. annother thing... i dont think anyone wants to hear about your personal lives on here and how depressed you are. underoath is christian, they dont wanna influence people to be suicidaly these ones that sound suicidal end up being AGAINST suicide... and its just not right when people are like "ohhh this song just explains my LIFE. im so depressed." good song though.

"Cutting" yourself doesn't have to mean suicide. it could be an act of trying to lower your sense of regret. Just applying more alternatives to what the song could mean.
