Amazing song, really carries some real emotion with it. The lyrics feel to me like they're about raising yourself up in the material, business world. The lines "Turn my lead into gold, Flash the readies," "Got to make it to the next meal," and "I'm the man on the outside looking in," all seem to point to a man trying to obtain money and wealth. Then at the end, when he's finally "I'm the man on the inside looking out," and he's inviting other people into his world, "Here me shout, come on in! What's the news, and where you've been?" He's finally attained his goal, but "There's no wind left in my soul and I've grown old." means he's lost his meaning and grown old in the process. Just my take on it. And I usually don't quote so many lines in my posts, but I couldn't help it with song, the lyrics are just so great!
