"In the Garage"
by Weezer, from their self-titled debut.
Tuning: Tune to Eb (Eb, Ab, Db, Gb).

I've had a couple of requests for the bassline to "In the Garage", and I
finally got around to transcribing it, so here it is. I'm going to assume
that whoever is looking for this is already familiar with the song, so
I'll give you all the parts, and the layout of the song. It's up to you
to figure out what goes where. There are some variations throughout the
song, such as the number of times you play each note at the end of the
chorus ("...sing this song", etc.), but it's all up to you as to how
exact you want to be in playing the song.

|-----------------------------------| Verse.
|-----------------------------------|
|--3-3-3-3-3-3-5-5------------------|
|------------------0-0-0-0-0-0-0-0--|

|----------------------------------------------------------------------
|----------------------------------------------------------------------
|--3-3-3-3-3-3-5-5---------3-3-3-----------3-3-3-------5---------------
|------------------3-3-3-3-------3-3-3-3-3-------3-3-3---0--0-0-0-0-0--

----------------------| Verse continued.
----------------------|
--5-------------------|
----0--0-0-0-0-0-0-0--|

|-------------------------------------------------------------| Chorus.
|-------------------------------------------------------------|
|----------5-5-5-5-------------------------5-5-5-5-3-3-2------|
|--3-3-3-3---------5-5-5-5-0-0-0-0-3-3-3-3---------------5-3--|

------------| Chorus.
------------|
------------|
--/5--5--3--|

|-------------------------------------| This variation of the chorus is
|-------------------------------------| played two times, and only at
|----------5-5-5-5-/7-7-7-7-3-3-3-3--| the very end of the song.
|--3-3-3-3----------------------------|

There are all the parts, now here is the layout:

Intro (no bass)
Verse (2x)
Chorus
Chorus w/o vocals
Verse (drum and bass, with Fuzz pedal on)
Chorus
Verse
Chorus (4x)

One last note: there is a point in the song when Rivers yells, and I
think I can hear Matt plucking the open E string a couple times as he
does. Call it tediousness, but it helps in building the momentum.

As of now, I really have no email address, but I plan on typing up the
bassline to "The Good Life" soon, and I'll take requests once I find a
permanent email site, for now mail them to thx.1138@mailcity.com.

Thanks.
Patrick Killingsworth

Rivers said about In The Garage & Holiday: "Written in a sudden burst of confidence and optimism right after we got a record deal. Those positive emotions have since dissipated - along with our cash advances - but I still like the songs." I'm sure we all like the songs too.

When I first heard this song, I was listening to the album all the way through after buying it for 'Buddy Holly' and especially "Say It Ain't So." I got the hugest vibe from Weezer, like this was rock meant for me. "Undone" and "My Name is Jonas" cinched Weezer as my first great musical love. But this song brought the band to my level. I love D&D and had played it the same week that I first listened to the song. The revelation of both D&D and the X-Men totally dumbfounded me: I thought I was the biggest geek in the universe and then they reached out to me and told me I wasn't that weird. When I played it for my gamer friends, all they did was smile and nod their heads to the beat--they knew this was a great song from a great band. Oh yeah, and the d12 is a much-overlooked die that needs its due. Thanks, Rivers.

oh oh, i love this song. heehee. because it applies to me, if you change "KISS" to "weezer" and ace frehely to "rivers cuomo" and peter criss to "brian and mikey and pat". heeheehee. and also it was super rock how rivers said "time for some old-school" at the concert. heehee. yes yes.
