It sounds to me like he's trying to start a new life, but he's writing this song to the person who's holding him back, an ex-lover or something, and he can't seem to deal with them. There's only one thing left and he'll be able to start again, but they're "the hardest button to button." No idea about the first part, but a voodoo doll can be used to heal as much as it can hurt, and they're often used for good, but you never hear about that. I think. Or something.

I think it's about this incestous, dysfunctional family.

I'm not very shure but i got: It was a ray gun And it was 1984 Instead of 1981 which kind of gives more sence to te song making a reference to a book instead of just adding random dates. It also helps out on some of the theories that say the song has a social meaning to it. by th way cool name Mr, Orange is ti from Reservoir dogs? (that movie kicks ass)

ya, ive been thinking about this song for months, glad I found this site. hardest button to button is top coat, agreed, and a sign of maturiy: like when your full grown you can dress yourself (meatphoricaly, and coat being the outer garment) good comments who put that>this was my take to... I think there is some sibling rivalry going on to. agreed. ANd this is to be viewed as some life story from youth to grown up now.... Thats the button, the issue or issues. > i had oppinions that didnt matter a brain that felt like pancake batter... his back yard sounds pretty empty : is he making analogy that he wishes they had things patched up so life was not so bare between them. you know the small life small house, back yard bbq, whole town/urban'ite kinda life thang, ?sleazy : what is this issue or topic: guess. ? box w/ something in it... shite? mebe juz thoughts. awsum tunz foi sure
